Cerebral Venous Thrombosis in Hematological Malignancy: Balancing the Risks
Background and Aim: The coexistence of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) and hematological neoplasms is rare. Currently available therapeutic options raise problems concerning the balance of thrombotic and hemorrhagic risks. Our purpose is to characterize a series of cases of CVT and concomitant hematological malignancy, focusing on predisposing factors and treatment strategies. Methods: We performed a descriptive retrospective analysis of the cases of CVT and hematological neoplasms diagnosed in a tertiary center from 2006 to 2015.

Ischemic Stroke with Protein S Deficiency Treated by Apixaban
A 57-year-old man with atherosclerosis obliterans was admitted with sudden-onset sensory aphasia and right hemiparesis. Brain MRI revealed acute cerebral infarctions in the left temporal lobe and magnetic resonance angiography showed occlusion of the posterior branch of the left middle cerebral artery. Transesophageal echocardiography and ultrasonography respectively confirmed a patent foramen ovale and deep vein thrombosis in the bilateral femoral veins. Blood findings showed low protein S antigen, low protein S activity, and a missense mutation of the PROS 1 gene.

A Case of Wallenberg's Syndrome Presenting with Spontaneous Thrombosis of a Vertebral Artery Aneurysm
Complete spontaneous thrombosis of intracranial aneurysms is uncommon. Although this type of thrombosis is largely asymptomatic, in rare cases it can be accompanied by parent artery occlusion and ischemic stroke. There are limited reports of complete thrombosis of an unruptured aneurysm of the internal carotid artery and middle cerebral artery. Furthermore, there are no reports of occlusion of the vertebral artery caused by thrombosis of an aneurysm. The mechanisms of spontaneous thrombosis are not established.

The Spectrum of Nontraumatic Convexity Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Background: Nontraumatic convexity subarachnoid hemorrhage (cSAH) is a nonaneurysmal variant that is associated with diverse etiologies. Methods: With IRB approval, we retrospectively reviewed consecutive nontraumatic cSAH from July 1, 2006 to July 1, 2016. Data were abstracted on demographics, medical history, neuroimaging, etiology, and clinical presentation. Results: We identified 94 cases of cSAH. Multicenter prospective analysis of stroke patients taking oral anticoagulants: The PASTA registry - Study design and characteristics
The management of atrial fibrillation and deep venous thrombosis has evolved with the development of direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC), and oral anticoagulant (OAC) might influence the development or clinical course in both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. However, detailed data on the differences between the effects of the prior prescription of warfarin and DOAC on the clinical characteristics, neuroradiologic findings, and outcome of stroke are limited.

Even Faster Door-to-Alteplase Times and Associated Outcomes in Acute Ischemic Stroke
We report a single-center, retrospective assessment of the safety and efficacy of alteplase treatment within 45 minutes. Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis as a Rare Complication of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Subgroup Analysis of the VENOST Study
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an unusual risk factor for cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST). As few CVST patients with SLE have been reported, little is known regarding its frequency as an underlying etiology, clinical characteristics, or long-term outcome. A Case of Cerebral Venous Thrombosis and Deep Venous Thrombosis Due to Hyperthyroidism with Increased Factor VIII Activity
A 48-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of headache and fever. She was diagnosed with aseptic meningitis. Five days later, she had a seizure and developed left hemiparesis. Magnetic resonance imaging showed hyperintensity in the right parietal area on fluid attenuated inversion recovery imaging. She was diagnosed as having cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) because the suprasagittal sinus was invisible on the venographic studies. Moreover, deep venous thrombosis (DVT) was detected in her left lower extremity.
