Relevance of Carotid Reocclusion in Tandem Lesions
CONCLUSIONS: CRO has a relevant clinical impact in our study, associating lower rates of good functional outcomes at 3 months. Independent factors of CRO were the recanalization degree, presence of pial collateral circulation, use of a stent as a protective factor, and use of general anesthesia during thrombectomy.PMID:35989291 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63560

E-004 Focal intracranial vasculopathy as a manifestation of COVID-19-associated acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionTo our knowledge, our case is the first to illustrate the potential for COVID-19 infection to present as a focal intracranial vasculopathy in an otherwise healthy young-patient, resulting in acute ischemic stroke without an underlying hypercoagulable state. Rescue intracranial stenting was necessary to maintain vessel patency and restore intracranial flow.Disclosures A. Mahapatra: None. A. Witek: None. G. Toth: None.

Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis Is Associated With Circadian and Other Variability in Embolus Detection
Conclusions: Embolism associated with asymptomatic carotid stenosis shows circadian variation with highest rates 4–6 h before midday. This corresponds with peak circadian incidence of stroke and other vascular complications. These and ASED Study results show that monitoring frequency, duration, and time of day are important in ES detection. Introduction Transcranial Doppler (TCD) detected microembolism in the ipsilateral middle cerebral artery (MCA) may help stratify the risk of stroke and other arterial disease complications in persons with advanced (≥60%) asymptomatic carotid stenosis. If so, this t...

Ischemic stroke in a patient with Parry-Romberg syndrome (P4.064)
Conclusions:The only other reported patient with PRS and stroke was also found to have a PFO. It is possible that the elevated ANA seen in this patient correlates with propensity towards small venous clots not seen on ultrasound. This may lead to paradoxical emboli and ischemic strokes. It is important to note this potential association between PRS and ischemic stroke in young patients without other known risk factors. It would be worthwhile to treat this subset of patients with medications for secondary stroke prevention.Disclosure: Dr. Ebiana has nothing to disclose. Dr. Singh has nothing to disclose. A Rabbit Model of Cerebral Microembolic Signals for Translational Research: Preclinical Validation for Aspirin and Clopidogrel.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated the successful establishment of the MES model in rabbits, which may provide translational value for MES and ischemic stroke research. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. PMID: 27262051 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Closing the Loop: A 21-year Audit of Strategies for Preventing Stroke and Death Following Carotid Endarterectomy
The objective of this review was to identify causes of stroke/death after carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and to develop transferable strategies for preventing stroke/death after CEA, via an overview of a 21-year series of themed research and audit projects. Three preventive strategies were identified: (i) intra-operative transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasound and completion angioscopy which virtually abolished intra-operative stroke, primarily through the removal of residual luminal thrombus prior to restoration of flow; (ii) dual antiplatelet therapy with a single 75-mg dose of clopidogrel the night before surgery in additio...
