Ethnic Disparities in Ischemic Stroke, Intracerebral Hemorrhage, and Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Incidence in The Netherlands Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Our findings suggest that Surinamese have an increased risk, whereas Moroccans have a reduced risk for all the various stroke subtypes. Among other ethnic minorities, the risk seems to depend on the stroke subtype and sex. These findings underscore the need to identify the root causes of these ethnic differences to assist primary and secondary prevention efforts.

Determinants in Adolescence of Stroke-Related Hospital Stay Duration in Men: A National Cohort Study Brief Reports
Conclusions— Some characteristics relevant to length of stroke-related hospital stay and risk of second stroke are already present in adolescence. Early lifestyle influences are of importance not only to stroke risk by middle age but also to recurrence and use of healthcare resources among stroke survivors.

Differentiating Childhood Stroke From Mimics in the Emergency Department Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Being well in the week before presentation, inability to walk, face and arm weakness are associated with increased odds of stroke. The lack of positive or negative association between stroke and seizures or loss of consciousness is an important difference to adults. Pediatric stroke pathways and bedside tools need to factor in differences between children and adults and between stroke subtypes.

Hepatocyte Growth Factor Is Positively Associated With Risk of Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Circulating HGF was positively associated with the incidence of stroke in a diverse, population-based cohort of men and women from the United States. Our findings support the hypothesis that circulating HGF is a marker of endothelial damage and suggest that HGF may have utility as a prognostic marker of stroke risk.

Risk of Acute Stroke After Hospitalization for Sepsis Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Risk of stroke is high after sepsis, and this risk persists for up to a year. Younger sepsis patients have a particularly increased risk of stroke after sepsis.

Contribution of Established Stroke Risk Factors to the Burden of Stroke in Young Adults Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Modifiable risk factors previously established in older populations also account for a large part of stroke in younger adults, with 4 risk factors explaining almost 80% of stroke risk.Clinical Trial Registration—URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT00414583.

Mendelian Genes and Risk of Intracerebral Hemorrhage and Small-Vessel Ischemic Stroke in Sporadic Cases Brief Report
Conclusions—In the absence of syndromic features and family history of stroke, screening for Mendelian mutations among small-vessel stroke patients is unlikely to have high diagnostic utility.

Blood Biomarkers for the Early Diagnosis of Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—The studied biomarkers were not sufficient for an accurate differential diagnosis of stroke in the hyperacute setting. Additional discovery of new biomarkers and improvement on laboratory techniques seem necessary for achieving a molecular diagnosis of stroke.

Trends and Survival Between Ethnic Groups After Stroke: The South London Stroke Register Original Contributions
Conclusions— Survival has improved in a multiethnic population over time. The independent survival advantage of black Caribbean and black African over White group in those aged over 65 may be a healthy migrant effect of first generation migrants. The increase in admission to a stroke unit may contribute to the improvement in survival after stroke.
