Frequency and Predictors of Stroke After Acute Myocardial Infarction: Specific Aspects of In-Hospital and Postdischarge Events Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The present study describes specific predictors of in-hospital and postdischarge stroke in patients with AMI. It showed a marked increase in the risk of death, both during hospitalization and in the year after AMI. After hospital discharge, stroke remains a rare event and is mostly associated with high cardiovascular risk.

Cerebrovascular Disease in Rheumatic Diseases: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Risk of any stroke is higher in most rheumatic diseases than in the general population, particularly <50 years. Rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus increase ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke risk by 60% to 100% relative to the general population.

Efficacy and Safety of Vorapaxar in Patients With Prior Ischemic Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— In patients with prior ischemic stroke who receive standard antiplatelet therapy, adding vorapaxar increased the risk of intracranial hemorrhage without an improvement in major vascular events, including ischemic stroke. These findings add to the accumulating evidence establishing important risks with combination antiplatelet therapy in patients with prior stroke. Baseline Cognitive Function, Recurrent Stroke, and Risk of Dementia in Patients With Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Patients with stroke with low MMSE scores are at high risk of dementia over time, even in the absence of a recurrent stroke, and should therefore be followed closely for further cognitive decline.

Association of Short-Term Use of Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs With Stroke in Patients With Hypertension Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The results demonstrate an increased risk of stroke, specifically ischemic stroke among hypertensive subjects with NSAIDs use. It would be important to closely monitor the transient effect of initial NSAIDs treatment, particularly in patients with hypertension.

Serum Soluble Corin Is Decreased in Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Serum soluble corin was decreased in patients with stroke compared with healthy controls. Our findings raise the possibility that serum soluble corin may have a pathogenic role in stroke.

Influence of Cardiovascular Fitness and Muscle Strength in Early Adulthood on Long-Term Risk of Stroke in Swedish Men Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— At the age of 18 years, low fitness and to a lesser degree low muscle strength were independently associated with an increased future stroke risk.

Risk of Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Strokes in Occult and Manifest Cancers Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Cancer, occult and manifest, is associated with increased risks for stroke. The increased risk is linked mainly to cancers related to smoking.

Preadmission Oral Anticoagulant Treatment and Clinical Outcome Among Patients Hospitalized With Acute Stroke and Atrial Fibrillation: A Nationwide Study Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Only a minority of hospitalized patients with acute stroke with atrial fibrillation received OAT at the time of stroke. Preadmission OAT was associated with less severe stroke and lower 30-day mortality rate in a propensity score–matched analysis.

Accuracy of Prediction Instruments for Diagnosing Large Vessel Occlusion in Individuals With Suspected Stroke: A Systematic Review for the 2018 Guidelines for the Early Management of Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke AHA/ASA Systematic Review
Conclusions—No scale predicted LVO with both high sensitivity and high specificity. Systems that use LVO prediction instruments for triage will miss some patients with LVO and milder stroke. More prospective studies are needed to assess the accuracy of LVO prediction instruments in the prehospital setting in all patients with suspected stroke, including patients with hemorrhagic stroke and stroke mimics.

Cerebrovascular Accidents During Mechanical Circulatory Support Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients on LVAD support. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease increases the risk of ischemic stroke, whereas dialysis may increase the risk of hemorrhagic stroke. Although any stroke increases mortality, post-LVAD hemorrhagic stroke was associated with higher mortality compared with ischemic stroke.
