Role of Brain Biomarker in Predicting Clinical Outcome in Hypertensive Cerebrovascular Ischemic Stroke
This study was undertaken to evaluate the role of serum neuron specific enolase (NSE) in prediction of disability and neurological worsening in hypertensive ischemic cerebrovascular stroke. 80 hypertensive ischemic stroke patients diagnosed by a neurologist as per WHO definition along with radiological findings suggestive of cerebrovascular stroke and differentiating from hemorrhagic stroke and 60 controls having essential hypertension coming to hospital because of regular checkup or headache but with no neurological disease were included in the study. Neurological disability was assessed by NIHSS at the time of admission ...

Clinical profile and role of C-reactive protein and lactate dehydrogenase as prognostic marker and comparative efficacy of different pharmacotherapeutic agents in patients with cerebrovascular accident: An observational study
Dibya Jyoti Sharma, K Jeenaleima Singha, Karuna Das, Chandrama Das, M RakeshIndian Journal of Pharmacology 2021 53(6):484-488 The current study was conducted to determine the role of C-reactive protein (CRP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) as prognostic-marker and outcomes of different pharmacotherapeutic agents among patients with cerebrovascular accident (CVA). A hospital-based observational study was conducted and patients with CVA admitted were included. Serum-CRP on admission correlated positively with modified Rankin score (mRS) (r = 0.9, P < 0.001) in ischemic stroke, whereas no correlation be...

Intravenous Fat Emulsion Does Not Significantly Alter Clotting Markers in Dabigatran-Treated Blood
AbstractDabigatran etexilate is an oral direct thrombin (Factor IIa) inhibitor approved for patients with atrial fibrillation and for management of risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Dabigatran offers advantages over treatment with warfarin, including limited laboratory monitoring. It is equivalent in prevention of stroke and deep vein thrombosis with essentially equivalent complication rates. In contrast to warfarin, reversal of the anticoagulation is less well established. Idarucizumab is available for reversal, however supporting research is mixed; the agent also happens to be quite expensive making av...
