A Nested Case-Control Study to Explore the Association between Immunoglobulin G N-glycans and Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: This study validated that altered IgG N-glycan traits were associated with incident IS in men, suggesting that sex discrepancies might exist in these associations.PMID:37253665 | DOI:10.3967/bes2023.048

Older Age is Associated with Positional Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a highly prevalent disease affecting almost 1 billion people worldwide (1), and its prevalence continues to rise with increasing age and rates of obesity (2,3). Untreated OSA has been regarded as a strong risk factor for stroke(4), myocardial infarction and hypertension(5), diabetes mellitus(6), motor vehicle accidents (7), and cognitive impairment in the elderly population (8). Therapies for OSA include continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), oral devices and hypoglossal nerve stimulation (9).

Obesity associated with improved mortality of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for severe COVID-19 pneumonia
CONCLUSIONS: In patients receiving ECMO for severe COVID-19, neither obesity (BMI >30) nor morbid obesity (BMI >40) were associated with in-hospital mortality. These results are consistent with previous reports and held true after adjusting for age and comorbidities. Our data suggest further examination of the recommendations to withhold ECMO in patients who are obese.PMID:37229525 | DOI:10.1177/02676591231178896

Lipid profiles and atrial fibrillation in ischemic stroke patients treated with thrombectomy: experience from a tertiary Italian stroke hospital
CONCLUSION: Total cholesterol and all cholesterol-related measures were significantly lower in patients undergoing thrombectomy than in other stroke patients. Conversely, we found that AF was significantly high in patients with EVT, suggesting that hypercholesterolemia could be mainly linked to small-vessel occlusion stroke while large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke could show different causes. AIS patients may have different pathogenesis and their understanding may improve enhance the discovery of specific and tailored preventive treatments.PMID:37221691 | DOI:10.2174/1871525721666230522124351
