Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels are associated with subsequent stented-territory ischemic stroke after carotid artery stenting
Background and Aims: Uncontrolled low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is an important risk factor for carotid stenosis. However, the role of LDL-C after carotid artery stenting (CAS) is not well known with respect to stented-territory infarction (STI) and in-stent restenosis (ISR). We hypothesized that LDL-C levels after CAS might be independently associated with STI and ISR.

In Reply We appreciate Dr Kawada ’s comments about our study, which demonstrated that a treat-to-target LDL-C strategy of 50 to 70 mg/dL as the goal was noninferior to a high-intensity statin therapy for the 3-year composite of death, myocardial infarction, stroke, or coronary revascularization.

Small dense LDL cholesterol and ischemic stroke
Background and Aims: For decades it has been suggested that small dense low-density lipoprotein (sdLDL) may be particularly atherogenic. High levels of sdLDL are associated with an increased risk of ischemic heart disease; however, the association of sdLDL with ischemic stroke has not been explored in a large prospective study on the general population.
