Pattern of Neurological Disorders among Patients Evaluated in the Emergency Department; Cross-Sectional Study
CONCLUSION: In our study, neurologic emergencies accounted for 3.7% of all emergency admissions. Stroke, epileptic seizures, cerebral venous thrombosis, encephalopathies, and acute spinal cord diseases were the most common neurological disorders. The admission rate was very high following neurologic assessment by neurologists.PMID:36743701 | PMC:PMC9887228 | DOI:10.22037/aaem.v11i1.1813

Response to Letter to the Editor
We thank the authors for their interest in our article and the thoughtful comments. As they correctly point out, the association between the first vaccination with ChAdOx1 nCov -19 vaccine and the described symptoms in our article does not prove any causality. However, cutaneous hemorrhages and headaches were frequently reported side effects after vaccination with ChAdOx1 nCov-19 in the Norwegian corona study cohort in young and previously healthy subjects. In lack of previous experience, there was a fear that these symptoms may have represented a mild form of VITT.

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 1690: Acupuncture Is Effective at Reducing the Risk of Stroke in Patients with Migraines: A Real-World, Large-Scale Cohort Study with 19-Years of Follow-Up
This study explored the long-term effects of acupuncture treatment on stroke risk in migraineurs using national real-world data. We collected new migraine patients from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2017. Using 1:1 propensity-score matching, we assigned patients to either an acupuncture or non-acupuncture cohort and followed up until the end of 2018. The incidence of stroke in the two cohorts was compared using the Cox proportional hazards regression analysis. Each cohort was composed of 1354 newly diagnosed migraineurs with similar baseline characteristic...

Alternative and complementary medicine in neurological disorders and neurological disability patients: Prevalence, factors, opinions and reasons
CONCLUSION: One third of patients with neurological pathologies use CAM, the most popular type of CAM is biologic therapies. As in other pathologies, CAM use was associated with older age, history of depression, and chronic diseases. Therefore, it is suggested that physicians routinely ask patients about the use of CAM, if they need more information about CAM, and even verify the possibility of drug interactions or adverse effects.PMID:36646394 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctim.2023.102920

Symptoms and pattern of symptom propagation in incipient ischemic stroke and migraine aura
ConclusionThere is a significant overlap in the clinical presentation of stroke and migraine aura. In particular, a substantial proportion of patients in one group had symptoms that are traditionally attributed to the other group. This study highlights the similarities and differences between symptoms of ischemic stroke and migraine aura and challenges our reasoning in daily clinical practice.

Scientists tie third clinical trial death to experimental Alzheimer ’s drug
As enthusiasm mounts for a new experimental antibody that appears to slow cognitive decline in some Alzheimer’s patients, a third death linked to the drug during its clinical testing may amplify concerns about its safety. Science has obtained medical records showing a 79-year-old Florida woman participating in an ongoing trial of the antibody died in mid-September after experiencing extensive brain swelling and bleeding, as well as seizures. Multiple neuroscientists who reviewed the records at Science ’s request believe her death was likely caused by the antibody, lecanemab. “The brain swelling and t...
