Incidence and risk factors for nasoenteral tube-related mechanical complications in a double cohort
CONCLUSION: traction or removal and obstruction of the device were frequent. A history of stroke, higher score on the Glasgow Coma Scale, and older age were risk factors for traction, whereas obstruction was more common in patients who already had the tube on at admission to the nursing ward, and who had opioids in the form of pills administered via the tube.PMID:35227066 | DOI:10.20960/nh.03877

Lipoprotein(a) levels are associated with coronary severity but not with outcomes in Chinese patients underwent percutaneous coronary intervention
ConclusionLp(a) is an independent predictor of the prevalence of more complex coronary artery lesions (SYNTAX score ≥ 23) in patients with PCI. In addition, our study has shown that Lp(a) has no relationship with long-term cardiovascular outcomes in Chinese patients with PCI.

Effect of Vitamin D Level on Clinical Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation.
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with LVAD, both deficiency and insufficiency of 25-OH vitamin D levels are independently associated with increased postoperative driveline infection risk and higher rate of readmission. Further trials are needed to confirm whether a repletion regimen could be a promising means of decreasing the risk for these postoperative adverse events. Controlling nutritional status score for predicting 3-mo functional outcome in acute ischemic stroke
Malnutrition has been reported to be an independent risk factor for morbidity and mortality in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) [1 –3]. The prevalence of malnutrition after AIS has been reported to range from 8% to 34% [3]. In addition, malnourished patients, at admission, had a higher frequency of pneumonia, other infections, gastrointestinal bleeding, and bedsores than nourished patients [1,3]. Nutritional management is the refore a non-pharmacologic approach toward improving patient outcomes.

Minimally-invasive volaemic monitoring through stroke volume variation leads to better intraoperative outcomes in laparoscopic hepatic surgery
Objectives: Intraoperative volaemic control is a mainstay of protocols aiming at faster functional recovery after surgery. In particular, hypovolaemia has major positive effects in laparoscopic liver surgery, with reduced morbidity and mortality rate due to lower bleeding and consequent conversion rate to open surgery. Central venous pressure (CVP) has traditionally been used as a marker of cardiac preload, but its liability in laparoscopy is uncertain due to pneumoperitoneum and patient’s position.

Warfarin use and the risks of stroke and bleeding in hemodialysis patients with atrial fibrillation: A systematic review and a meta-analysis
The efficacy and safety of warfarin therapy in hemodialysis (HD) patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) remains controversial. Thus, we performed, up to date, the first meta-analysis on the risks of stroke and bleeding in warfarin treatment in these populations.
