Quick magnesium treatment fails to improve stroke outcomes, but study has silver lining

Comparison of the Risk Factor Profile, Stroke Subtypes, and Outcomes Between Stroke Patients Aged 65 Years or Younger and Elderly Stroke Patients: A Hospital-based Study
Conclusion We conclude that, apart from risk factors and stroke subtypes, the functional outcomes observed in the two groups differed. Early identification of these differences with good management may help to improve the clinical outcomes in younger stroke patients.

Clot removal device dramatically improves outcomes for people with acute ischemic stroke
A new device to remove obstructing blood clots can significantly improve outcomes for people who suffer a certain type of stroke, according to a study led by a UCLA investigator. Wide Variation in Reported Rates of Stroke Across Cohorts of Patients with Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSIONS: -There is substantial variation across cohorts in overall stroke rates and rates corresponding to CHA2DS2-VASc point scores. These variations can affect the point score threshold for recommending OAC in AF. The majority of cohorts did not observe stroke rates that would indicate a clear expected net clinical benefit for anticoagulating AF patients with CHA2DS2-VASc scores of 1 or 2. Timing of Postoperative Stroke and Risk of Mortality After Noncardiac Surgery: A Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative stroke tends to occur within 7 days following noncardiac surgery. Such timing of postoperative stroke carries a higher mortality risk, suggesting that targeted efforts to prevent stroke should focus on the first week following surgery to reduce the incidence and mortality associated with this complication.
