The burden of health conditions across race and ethnicity for aging Americans: Disability-adjusted life years
The objective of this study was to determine the burden of 10 health conditions across race and ethnicity for a nationally-representative sample of aging Americans.
Data from the 1998 to 2014 waves of the Health and Retirement Study, an ongoing longitudinal-panel study, were analyzed.
Those aged over 50 years who identified as Black, Hispanic, or White were included. There were 5510 Blacks, 3423 Hispanics, and 21,168 Whites in the study.

Do rheumatoid arthritis patients have more major complications and length of stay after lower extremities fracture surgery?: A nationwide data with propensity score matching
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have a high risk of cardiovascular diseases and fractures. This retrospective cohort study explored whether patients with RA face higher complication risks or longer hospital stays than other patients when they had a lower limb fracture that required the surgery. Handgrip strength, chronic physical conditions and physical multimorbidity in middle-aged and older adults in six low- and middle income countries.
CONCLUSION: Weaker handgrip strength is associated with a range of chronic physical conditions and multimorbidity. Future research should seek to establish the predictive value of this inexpensive measure for clinical use.

Progression of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke multimorbidity in middle-aged women: A 20-year cohort study
ConclusionsStroke was associated with increased risk of progression to diabetes or heart disease. Social inequality, obesity, hypertension, physical inactivity, smoking, or having other chronic conditions were also significantly associated with increased odds of accumulating multimorbidity. Our findings highlight the importance of awareness of the role of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke multimorbidity among middle-aged women for clinicians and health-promotion agencies.

Patterns and temporal trends of comorbidity among adult patients with incident cardiovascular disease in the UK between 2000 and 2014: A population-based cohort study
ConclusionsThe burden of multimorbidity and comorbidity in patients with incident non-fatal CVD increased between 2000 and 2014. On average, older patients, women, and socioeconomically deprived groups had higher numbers of comorbidities, but the type of comorbidities varied by age and sex. Cardiometabolic conditions contributed substantially to the burden, but 4 out of the 10 top comorbidities were non-cardiometabolic. The current single-disease paradigm in CVD management needs to broaden and incorporate the large and increasing burden of comorbidities.

In this study, we investigated the incidence of comorbidities and their risk factors among workers with hemophilia.
The study compared the incidence and risk factors of the major comorbidities of 411 workers with hemophilia enrolled in Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database between 1997 and 2010 with an age- and sex-matched general population.

Defining Metabolic Syndrome and Factors Associated with Metabolic Syndrome in a Poly-pharmaceutical Population.
CONCLUSION: The IDF definition for METs that makes allowance for treatment for each specific condition can lead to an overestimation in the prevalence of METs in population studies. Not including those medicated with normal results conversely underestimates the prevalence of METs. We have therefore proposed adjustments to BP and lipid measurements based on pooled mean effects from published systematic reviews to mitigate bias in future research on prevalence of METs.
