Medical malpractice in aortic valve and mitral valve replacement surgery in North America
CONCLUSIONS: In addition to excellent surgeon patient/family communication, administering surgical treatment in a timely manner, diagnosing and acting on concomitant medical conditions, and close patient monitoring may diminish medical malpractice litigation involving aortic and mitral valve replacement operations.PMID:34338496 | DOI:10.23736/S0021-9509.21.11945-7

Aortic valve repair decreases risks of VRE in AI at 10 years: a propensity score-matched analysis
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated a lower long-term risk of VRE with repair compared to replacement, with low mortality and comparable durability. Further prospective randomized control trials are necessary to formally compare outcomes and determine superiority.PMID:34228974 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.06.020

< em > Candida parapsilosis < /em > endocarditis in an immunocompetent host
Proc (Bayl Univ Med Cent). 2021 Apr 2;34(4):494-495. doi: 10.1080/08998280.2021.1901642.ABSTRACTThis case describes an 83-year-old immunocompetent woman who presented to the emergency department with complaints of nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. She was found to have evidence of embolic stroke secondary to Candida parapsilosis endocarditis. This case emphasizes the challenge of diagnosing fungal endocarditis, as it can be difficult to culture, and the importance of broad differentials even in patients with no obvious risk factors.PMID:34219935 | PMC:PMC8224211 | DOI:10.1080/08998280.2021.1901642
