New ERLEADA ® (apalutamide) Analysis Demonstrates Rapid, Deep Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Response in Patients with Metastatic Castration-Sensitive Prostate Cancer (mCSPC)
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 14, 2022 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson today announced new real-world evidence data showing the initiation of ERLEADA® (apalutamide) results in high rates of rapid and deep prostate-specific antigen (PSA) response among patients with metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC). In a separate post-hoc analysis of the registrational Phase 3 SPARTAN and TITAN studies, rapid and deep PSA responses with ERLEADA® were associated with improvement in patient-reported outcomes (PROs) related to quality of life, physical wellbeing, pain, and fatigue intensity. The...

Ageing-related markers and risks of cancer and cardiovascular disease: a prospective study in the EPIC-Heidelberg cohort
We examined the associations between five markers of unhealthy ageing; Growth Differentiation Factor-15 (GDF-15), N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1C), C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and cystatin-C; with risks of cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD). We used a case-cohort design embedded in the EPIC-Heidelberg cohort, including a subcohort of 3792 participants along with 4867 incident cases of cancer and CVD. Hazard ratios (HRs) were computed and the strongest associations were used to build weighted multi-marker combinations, and their associations with cancer and CVD risks we...

Comparative Cardiovascular Safety of Novel Hormonal Agents in Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer Using Real-World Data
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that ABI users may be at greater risk of cardiovascular-related hospitalization compared to ENZ users, in particular for heart failure. These results provide clinicians with additional insight on the cardiovascular risks of mCRPC patients treated with NHAs in the real-world and further large studies are required to corroborate these findings.PMID:34706850 | DOI:10.1016/j.clgc.2021.08.009

Emerging roles of growth differentiation factor-15 in brain disorders (Review)
Exp Ther Med. 2021 Nov;22(5):1270. doi: 10.3892/etm.2021.10705. Epub 2021 Sep 7.ABSTRACTBrain disorders, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and cerebral stroke, are an important contributor to mortality and disability worldwide, where their pathogenesis is currently a topic of intense research. The mechanisms underlying the development of brain disorders are complex and vary widely, including aberrant protein aggregation, ischemic cell necrosis and neuronal dysfunction. Previous studies have found that the expression and function of growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF15) is closely associated with the incidence ...
