Associations of Plasma 25-Hydroxy Vitamin D and Dietary Vitamin D Intake with Insulin Resistance in Healthy Japanese Women
J Nutr Sci Vitaminol (Tokyo). 2023;69(1):46-52. doi: 10.3177/jnsv.69.46.ABSTRACTWe investigated the associations of plasma 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25(OH)D) concentration and the dietary intake of vitamin D with insulin resistance in Japanese women. Study participants were 406 Japanese women attended a health examination. They were not taking hormones or medications for diabetes and had no history of cancer, ischemic heart disease, or stroke. Information regarding medical history and lifestyle factors was obtained by a self-administered questionnaire, while hours of sun exposure were determined through interviews. Dietary int...

Causes of death of patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation in Asians
ConclusionDeath due to ischemic stroke was responsible for only 4.7% of all deaths in Asian AF patients. Non-CV death, such as infection/sepsis or malignancy, was more far more prevalent than CV death in Asian AF patients. An improved integrated care approach is needed to reduce the prevalence of non-CV death in Asian AF patients.

Utility of atherosclerosis-associated serum antibodies against colony-stimulating factor 2 in predicting the onset of acute ischemic stroke and prognosis of colorectal cancer
CONCLUSION: S-CSF2-Ab was useful for the diagnosis of atherosclerosis-related AIS, AMI, DM, and CKD and could discriminate poor prognosis, especially in p53-Ab-negative CRC.PMID:36844744 | PMC:PMC9954151 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2023.1042272

Androgen Deprivation Therapy and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in Patients With Prostate Cancer Based on Existence of Cardiovascular Risk
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with GnRH agonists, the GnRH antagonist was found to be associated with a decreased risk of HF, specifically among patients with prior CVD. Among those with no prior CVD, the GnRH antagonist was associated with a decreased risk of IHD but an increased risk of arrhythmia.PMID:36791755 | DOI:10.6004/jnccn.2022.7083

Pioglitazone Use and Reduced Risk of Dementia in Patients With Diabetes Mellitus With a History of Ischemic Stroke
DISCUSSION: Pioglitazone use is associated with a lower risk of dementia in DM patients, particularly in those with a history of stroke or ischemic heart disease, suggesting the possibility of applying a personalized approach when choosing pioglitazone to suppress dementia in DM patients.PMID:36792375 | DOI:10.1212/WNL.0000000000207069

Health risk assessment for particulate matter: application of AirQ+  model in the northern Caribbean region of Colombia
AbstractAir pollution is considered the world ’s most important environmental and public health risk. The annual exposure for particulate matter (PM) in the northern Caribbean region of Colombia between 2011 and 2019 was determined using PM records from 25 monitoring stations located within the area. The impact of exposure to particulate matt er was assessed through the updated Global Burden of Disease health risk functions using the AirQ+ model for mortality attributable to acute lower respiratory disease (in children ≤ 4 years); mortality in adults aged >  18 years old attributable to chronic obstructi...

Endothelial Specific Deletion of Autotaxin Improves Stroke Outcomes
This study suggests that endothelial-specific ATX leads to increased LPA in the brain vasculature following ischemic-reperfusion and ultimately disrupts vascular permeability, resulting in adverse stroke outcomes.PMID:36766854 | DOI:10.3390/cells12030511
