Spectrum of movement disorder emergencies in a tertiary care center in India: A prospective observational study
Conclusion: This study brings out some novel findings on the movement disorders emergencies in Indian scenario. Chorea was the most common movement disorder emergencies presenting to the neurology emergency services. Early recognition and management of movement disorders emergencies help in reducing morbidity.

Tenecteplase and alteplase for thrombolysis of acute ischemic stroke within 4.5 hours: An efficacy and safety study
Conclusions: This study showed a comparable efficacy and safety profile of alteplase and TNK in thrombolysis of AIS throughout the 4.5 hours window period. Moreover, the ease of administration and better pharmacodynamic properties favors tenecteplase.

Eye signs in stroke
Rajeshwar Sahonta, Ivy Sebastian, Sanjit Aaron, Appaswamy T Prabakhar, Anupriya Arthur, Jeyaraj D PandianAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology 2022 25(8):94-100 A large part of the central nervous system is involved in the normal functioning of the vision, and hence vision can be affected in a stroke patient. Transient visual symptoms can likewise be a harbinger of stroke and prompt rapid evaluation for the prevention of recurrent stroke. A carotid artery disease can manifest as transient monocular visual loss (TMVL), central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), anterior ischemic optic neuropathy or ocular ischemic syndrome (...

ABC of gaze and ocular oscillations
Mohan MadhusudananAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology 2022 25(8):113-119 The chief goal of all eye movements is to maintain the image of an object steady on the retina especially the macula to preserve visual acuity. Gaze palsy refers to lack of the conjugate movements due to a failure of supranuclear control mechanisms. Supranuclear control is maintained by not one, but multiple eye movement systems and gaze mechanisms. Supranuclear gaze palsies can be associated with a myriad of aetiologies- from trauma or metabolic abnormalities to stroke, demyelinating disorders and space occupying lesions like tumours. Culprit lesi...

Reprint of: Social Determinants of Health: Enhancing Health Equity
Nutrition and dietetics practitioners traditionally focus on modifying behavior to improve patient outcomes, but the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy) also recognizes the role of social determinants of health (SDOH) when examining root causes of chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, hepatitis, and stroke, particularly for minority and underserved populations.1

Mechanical thrombectomy: Review
Chintan Prajapati, Vikram Huded, Niranjan Mahajan, Anirudh KulkarniAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology 2022 25(4):606-615 Large vessel occlusion stroke contributes to disability and mortality out of proportion to its incidence. Over time it was noted that intravenous thrombolysis alone was not sufficient for this stroke type. Slowly, endovascular approach and mechanical clot retrieval have come out to be the biggest advances in the field of neurology as well as modern medicine. Although the careful selection of patients is needed as standardized by landmark trials. At the same time, thrombectomy is now being studied in ...

Predictors of early neurological deterioration following intravenous thrombolysis: Difference between risk factors for ischemic and hemorrhagic worsening
Conclusion: END occurs in one fifth of patients after intravenous thrombolysis; ENDi outnumbers ENDh. Proximal artery occlusion is a major predictor for END. Potentially modifiable risk factors include admission hyperglycemia and elevated blood pressures. Distinct factors characterize ENDh and ENDi and can guide prevention and management strategies. IScore identifies patients at risk for END.

Propensity of stroke in standard versus various aortic arch variants: A 200 patients study
Conclusions: Standard aortic arch Type 2, bovine aortic arch Type A, and Type B are associated with an early age at stroke presentation. During routine carotid evaluation by CT or MR angiography in stroke patients, it would be better to evaluate the aortic arch as well, especially in young patients.

Study Protocol: IMPETUS: Implementing a uniform stroke care pathway in medical colleges of India: IMPETUS Stroke
We present here a protocol to investigate the feasibility and fidelity of implementing a uniform stroke care pathway in medical colleges of India. Methods and Analysis: This is a multicentric, prospective, multiphase, mixed-method, quasi-experimental implementation study intended to examine the changes in a select set of stroke care-related indicators over time within the sites exposed to the same implementation strategy. We shall conduct process evaluation of the implementation process as well as evaluate the effect of the implementation strategy using the interrupted time series design. During implementation phase, educa...
