Sarcopenia and treatment failure in inflammatory bowel disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Sarcopenia was considered a novel marker to be used in clinical practice to predict treatment failure, in detail, the need for surgery in IBD patients. This distinct cohort necessitates clinical attention and tailored care strategies.PMID:37706492 | DOI:10.17235/reed.2023.9808/2023

Prediction of the penetration depth of multi-lamellar liposomes in artificial skin. Application to the vectorization of corticosteroid in human skin
Eur J Pharm Biopharm. 2023 Sep 12:S0939-6411(23)00240-0. doi: 10.1016/j.ejpb.2023.09.007. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOur previous work showed that the size, elasticity and charge of multi-lamellar liposomes (MLLs) could not be considered separately to predict the fate of MLLs in the skin.[1] Based on this study, we developed several MLLs formulations containing a corticosteroid, betamethasone 17-valerate (B17) to transport the drug into the stratum corneum, living epidermis, dermis or through the skin. MLLs encapsulation efficiency was found to exceed 74 ± 3 % in all cases. In addition, we showed that MLLs protected th...

Antenatal Corticosteroids at 21-23 Weeks of Gestation
Obstet Gynecol. 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005352. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNeonates born at the cusp of viability are at particularly high risk of severe morbidity and mortality. With advances in medicine and technology, the ability to resuscitate smaller, more premature neonates has become possible, and survival as early as 21 weeks of gestation has been reported. Although administration of antenatal corticosteroids has been shown to reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality at later gestational ages, neonates born before 24 weeks of gestation have not been included in randomized clinical trials. Chang...

Expert consensus on the management of patients undergoing cataract surgery: A Delphi study
CONCLUSIONS: The participants felt they could largely agree with and approve the statements proposed by the board. In addition, the Delphi study identified some points that are highly shared and endorsed. In particular, a new model approach can be based on a seven-day course using a fixed high-potency corticosteroid combination with a broad-spectrum antibiotic. At the end of this cycle, the patient should be re-evaluated in some way to continue any treatment in the most appropriate and personalized way possible.PMID:37700672 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231200996

Relationship Between Asthma Control Status and Health-Related Quality of Life in Japan: A Cross-Sectional Mixed-Methods Study
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with NWC asthma had higher symptom burden and worse HRQoL than patients with WC asthma, despite ICS/LABA adherence. Cough burden correlated with HRQoL, suggesting cough may be one of the key markers to inform treatment strategy for patients with asthma.PMID:37698717 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-023-02660-5

Corticosteroid Dose in Kidney Transplantation and Its Effect on Surgical Complication: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: We investigated the potential benefits of reducing the dose of corticosteroids following kidney transplant. Findings suggested thatreducing the dose of corticosteroids following kidney transplant might be a viable strategy for minimizing the risk of surgical complications. However, it is essential to note that the optimal dosage and duration of corticosteroid therapy after kidney transplant may vary for each patient and should be carefully determined by the health care provider.PMID:37698397 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0198
