Relative extents, mechanisms, and kinetics of fluoride removal from synthetic groundwater by prevalent sorbents
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 14:140161. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140161. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFluoride (F) contamination in groundwater affects millions of people across the world. Although several sorbents have been identified for low-cost F removal, the choice of the optimal sorbent is dictated by the specific chemistry of contaminated groundwater. In this contribution, eight prevalent sorbents-activated alumina (AA), calcite, hydroxyapatite-coated calcite (HCC), natural chitosan, chalk, Mg-Al-CO3 layered double hydroxide (LDH), calcined Mg-Al-CO3 LDH (cLDH), and hydrous ferric oxide (HFO)-were categorized on th...

Anti-oxidant, diabetic and inflammatory activities of alpinia calcarata roscoe extract
CONCLUSION: Our findings demonstrated that leaf oil was slightly more promising results than rhizome oil of AC extract, which was ultimately showed medicinal potential of secondary metabolites with antioxidant, diabetic/inflammatory activities. Further, Eoils of AC have a wide range of pharmacological potential and promising anti-diabetic effects.PMID:37715949 | DOI:10.1002/cbdv.202300970

Environmental Consequences of Intensive Aquaculture Practices at Moyna Purba Medinipur West Bengal India with Special Reference to Carbon Footprint and Carbon Sequestration
Bull Environ Contam Toxicol. 2023 Sep 16;111(3):44. doi: 10.1007/s00128-023-03798-2.ABSTRACTMoyna of Purba Medinipur district is widely known as an aquaculture hub of West Bengal, India. Though very good production is achievable from this fish culture system, management practices are inappropriate, which could create the sustainability problem of this culture system. The present study was thus undertaken for the estimation of plankton population, water quality, carbon footprint and carbon sequestration of this intensive aquaculture practices. Information on spawn to fry, fry to fingerlings and grow-out culture were collect...

A Survey on Alveolar Bone Grafting in Indian Cleft Centers
CONCLUSION: The survey showed a serious lack of consensus in the ABG treatment among cleft teams in India and emphasises the need for standardised protocols for the treatment of children with cleft palate. There is an urgent need to develop core outcome set in cleft.PMID:37715652 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231201491

Advanced bibliometric analysis on water, energy, food, and environmental nexus (WEFEN)
This article investigates research within the field of the quadruple nexus. Data from Scopus documents, with the keywords "water, energy, food, and environment" from 2011 to 2022, were processed and analyzed. Further research revealed that scientific exploration of the water-energy-food-environment relationship is rapidly expanding. The Scopus database was used to extract information about countries, institutions, highly cited publications, keywords, hot topics, and future research trends for this study. Additionally, the VOSviewer bibliometric software was employed to evaluate the scientific citations in this article. The...

Clean cooking technologies, information, and communication technology and the environment
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Sep 16. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29577-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn recent years, researchers and politicians have become concerned about the ever-increasing energy consumption of ICT gadgets. Any effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions should take the ICT industry's carbon emissions into account, given the widespread usage of ICT products across all economic sectors. Employing Driscoll-Kraay Panel Corrected Estimators for E7 economies from 2000 to 2020, we examine the direct impacts of ICT on ecology as well as the indirect implications through connections with the availability of ...

In the United States, women account for 33% of anesthesiology residents, while physicians identifying as Black, African American, Latinx, American Indian, or Alaska Native account for approximately 10%. Underrepresentation of these groups is even more pronounced in academic anesthesiology, especially at the senior ranks and roles, such as department chairs. Leaders in the f...

Cult Med Psychiatry. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.1007/s11013-023-09829-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMedical anthropologists have not paid enough attention to the variation at the level of the individual practitioners of biomedicine, and anthropological critiques of biomedical psychiatry as it is practiced in settings outside the Global North have tended to depict psychiatrists in monolithic terms. In this article, we attempt to demonstrate that, at least in the case of India, some psychiatrists perceive limitations in the biomedical model and the cultural assumptions behind biomedical practices and ideologies. This paper focu...

Advancements in Nipah virus treatment: Analysis of current progress in vaccines, antivirals, and therapeutics
Immunology. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.1111/imm.13695. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNipah virus (NiV) causes severe encephalitis in humans. Three NiV strains NiV-Malaysia (NiVM ), NiV Bangladesh (NiVB ), and NiV India (NiVI reported in 2019) have been circulating in South-Asian nations. Sporadic outbreak observed in South-East Asian countries but human to human transmission raises the concern about its pandemic potential. The presence of the viral genome in reservoir bats has further confirmed that NiV has spread to the African and Australian continents. NiV research activities have gained momentum to achieve specific preparedn...
