Identification and function of circular RNA hsa_circ_0071106: A novel biomarker for differentiation degree of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
CONCLUSION: Hsa_circ_0071106 was a downregulated circRNA related to ESCC and promoted ESCC progression by regulating cell migration and invasion. Myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2D promotes tumorigenesis and progression in tongue squamous cell carcinoma.
Abstract Tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) ranks as one of the most common cancers worldwide and has a poor prognosis. Myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2 (MEF2D) has recently been considered as a novel factor involved in cancer development. LRRC8A Expression Influences Growth of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma
The volume-regulated anion channel is composed of leucine-rich repeat –containing protein A (LRRC8A), and is activated by hypotonic conditions to implement the process of regulatory volume decrease. The role of LRRC8A in regulating genes related to progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) was investigated, as well as the prognostic significance of LR RC8A expression in this tumor. Knockdown experiments were conducted using ESCC cell lines and LRRC8A siRNA to assess the influence of this protein on tumor function.

Loss of CYLD promotes cell invasion via ALK5 stabilization in oral squamous cell carcinoma
This study aimed to clarify the roles of CYLD in OSCC progression. Our immunohistochemical analyses revealed significantly reduced CYLD expression in invasive areas in OSCC tissues, whereas CYLD expression was conserved in normal epithelium and carcinoma in situ. Furthermore, downregulation of CYLD by siRNA led to acquisition of mesenchymal features and increased migratory and invasive properties in OSCC cells and HaCaT keratinocytes. Net1, a therapeutic potential target for cancer
We read with interest the paper by Zhang et al. [1], reporting that Net1 siRNA may reduce the angiogenesis and tumor growth of in vivo cervical squamous cell carcinoma through VEGF down-regulation. The VEGF pathway may represent anti-angiogenic therapy for most cancer types. Ding et al. [2] found that elevated Gab2 could induce tumor growth and angiogenesis in colorectal cancer through upregulating VEGF levels. Zhang et al. [1] found that inhibition of Net1 expression resulted in down-regulation of VEGF expression in SiHa cells.

Apolipoprotein E promotes invasion in oral squamous cell carcinoma
Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients generally have a poor prognosis, due to the invasive nature of these tumors. In comparing transcription profiles between OSCC tumors with a more invasive (WPOI 5) versus a less invasive (WPOI 3) pattern of invasion, we identified a total of 97 genes that were overexpressed at least 1.5-fold in the more invasive tumor subtype. The most functionally relevant genes were assessed using in vitro invasion assays with an OSCC cell line (UM-SCC-1). Individual siRNA knockdown of 15 of these 45 genes resulted in significant reductions in tumor cell invasion compared to a non-targeting siRNA control.
