Lowered expression of CCN5 in endometriotic tissues promotes proliferation, migration and invasion of endometrial stromal cells
CONCLUSION: CCN5 can regulate the proliferation, migration and invasion of HESCs and thus plays an important role in EMT of HESCs, suggesting the potential of CCN5 as a therapeutic target for endometriosis.PMID:35249874 | PMC:PMC8901405 | DOI:10.12122/j.issn.1673-4254.2022.01.10

Serum level of visfatin can reflect the severity of inflammation in patients with acute cholecystitis.
Conclusion: Taken together, we concluded that visfatin is a pro-inflammatory mediators that is upregulated during acute cholecystitis and is expected to be increased within a short time after inflammation. Therefore, measuring the serum level of visfatin would be helpful in predicting the inflammatory severity in the patients with acute cholecystitis. PMID: 32676479 [PubMed]

Potential roles of aquaporin 9 in the pathogenesis of endometriosis
In this study, tissue samples were obtained from women undergoing laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis and other benign conditions. Analysis of expressions of AQP subtypes in eutopic and ectopic endometrium of patients with endometriosis (Eu-EMS and Ect-EMS, respectively) and eutopic endometrium of control patients without endometriosis (Eu-CTL) were performed using the NanoString nCounter System and western blotting. Human endometrial stromal cells (HESCs) were cultured and transfected with the siRNA of the AQP of interest. Among the AQP1 –9 subtypes, endometrial expression of AQP2 and AQP8 was significantly increased...

Methylxanthine derivatives promote autophagy in gastric cancer cells targeting PTEN
This study investigated the impacts of caffeine and theophylline on gastric cancer cell apoptosis and autophagy using a gastric cancer cell line (MGC-803) and a nude mouse model. Peritumoural and tumour tissues were collected from five patients diagnosed with gastric carcinoma who underwent laparoscopic radical gastrectomy at our hospital. Autophagy was suppressed in gastric cancer tumour tissue compared with peritumoural tissue. In vitro, both caffeine and theophylline effectively suppressed MGC-803 cell proliferation and migration and induced autophagy. To assess the involvement of PTEN in caffeine-mediated and theophyll...
