Smiglaside A ameliorates LPS-induced acute lung injury by modulating macrophage polarization via AMPK-PPAR γ pathway.
In this study, we evaluated the effects of the natural product smiglaside A, a phenylpropanoid glycoside isolated from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Smilax riparia, on macrophage polarization and investigated the underlying mechanisms. We found that smiglaside A promoted M2 polarization and reduced M1 polarization in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells and primary mouse peritoneal macrophages. Anti-inflammatory activity of the decoction of Forsythia suspensa (Thunb.) Vahl is related to Nrf2 and A20
ConclusionWFF activated Nrf2 and expressed A20. Given that Nrf2 suppresses inflammation and A20 broadly disrupts inflammatory signaling cascades, our results suggest that the anti-inflammatory activity of WFF is attributable to Nrf2 and A20.Graphical abstract

Contribution of human UDP-glucuronosyltransferases to the antioxidant effects of propolis, artichoke and silymarin
Conclusion: In conclusion, this study provides a possible molecular mechanism for protective antioxidant effects associated with the herbal drugs propolis, artichoke and silymarin. The herbal drug-mediated transcriptional upregulation of human detoxifying UGT1A enzymes via activation of AhR and Nrf2 leads to reduced hydrogen peroxide and oxidative stress. Because of UGT1A activation, the intake of these drugs could affect the therapeutic efficacy of other drugs when these also undergo metabolism by glucuronidation.Graphical abstract

Anti-inflammatory effect of the extracts from the branch of Taxillus yadoriki being parasitic in Neolitsea sericea in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells
In this study, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory effect of extracts of branch from Taxillus yadoriki being parasitic in Neolitsea sericea (TY-NS-B) using in vitro model. TY-NS-B significantly inhibited LPS-induced secretion of NO and PGE2 in RAW264.7 cells. TY-NS-B was also observed to inhibit LPS-mediated iNOS COX-2 expression. In addition, TY-NS-B attenuated production of inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β induced by LPS. Geniposide Suppresses Hepatic Glucose Production via AMPK in HepG2 Cells.
This study was designed to determine, for the first time, how geniposide from G. jasminoides regulates hepatic glucose production, and the underlying mechanisms. During in vitro study, we found the inhibitory effect of geniposide on the hepatic glucose production is partly through AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation in HepG2 cells.
