Microbial diversity in sherry wine biofilms and surrounding mites
Food Microbiol. 2023 Dec;116:104366. doi: 10.1016/j.fm.2023.104366. Epub 2023 Aug 25.ABSTRACTSherry wines are film wines produced in the Jerez-Xérès-Sherry and Montilla-Moriles regions in southern Spain which require an aging process under flor biofilms, known as "biological aging". The presence of mites in Sherry wine wineries has been reported and associated with improved wine volatile properties. This work analyzes the microbial diversity in flor biofilms and mites in Sherry wine wineries using Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time of Flight (MALDI-TOF) and ITS/gene amplification. Two mite species, Carpogly...

Exposure to micro(nano)plastics polymers in water stored in single-use plastic bottles
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 7:140106. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140106. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHuman exposure to micro (nano)plastics (MNPLs) has become a significant concern as a potential health threat. Exposure routes include ingestion, inhalation, and dermal contact, being food and drinking water the primary sources of oral exposure. Here we present the quantification of polymers of MNPLs particles from 700 nm to 20 μm in bottled water commercialised in Spain, including an estimation of the potential risk for daily consumers. We evaluated samples from 20 popular brands in 0.5 and 1.5 L plastic bottles. A double...

Risk of endometrial cancer after RRSO in BRCA 1/2 carriers: a multicentre cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: In our cohort, the risk of EC in BRCA1/2 carriers after RRSO is not greater than expected. Hysterectomy is not routinely recommended for these patients.PMID:37682500 | DOI:10.1007/s12094-023-03312-4

Is there a 'universal' core? Using semantic primes to select vocabulary across languages in AAC
Augment Altern Commun. 2023 Sep 8:1-11. doi: 10.1080/07434618.2023.2243322. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCore vocabulary lists and vocabulary inventories vary according to language. Lists from one language cannot and should not be assumed to be translatable, as words represent language-specific concepts and grammar. In this manuscript, we (a) present the results of a vocabulary overlap analysis between different published core vocabulary lists in English, Korean, Spanish, and Sepedi; (b) discuss the concept of universal semantic primes as a set of universal concepts that are posited to be language-independent; and (c) pro...

Curr Psychol. 2023 Jul;42(21):17682-17699. doi: 10.1007/s12144-022-02756-1. Epub 2022 Mar 12.ABSTRACTWe assessed the cross-cultural role of Time Perspective (TP) tendencies [Past Positive (PP), Past Negative (PN), Present Hedonistic (PH), Present Fatalistic (PF), and Future (F)], the Deviation from a Balanced Time Perspective (DBTP) profile, the Deviation from a Negative Time Perspective (DNTP) profile, and mindfulness on life satisfaction (LS). The sample consisted of psychology undergraduate students (N= 867, MAGE= 20.19, SD= 3.417) in four countries: USA, Spain, Poland and Japan. We used a 17-item short version of the Z...

Occurrence and risk assessment of pesticides and pharmaceuticals in viticulture impacted watersheds from Northwest Spain
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 6:140098. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140098. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn automated analytical methodology was developed, validated and applied to monitor 73 organic pollutants (pesticides and pharmaceuticals) in surface and groundwater samples obtained in watersheds from an intensive viticulture, rural region, in the Northwest of Spain. Filtered samples were concentrated using a reusable solid-phase extraction sorbent, on-line combined with liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The analytical procedure achieved limits of quantification between 1 ng L-1 and 10 ng L-1, wit...
