Spontaneous lumbar intraspinal subdural abscess: a case report
ConclusionsThis is the second case reported in the literature of a genuinely spontaneous subdural spinous abscess, which was successfully managed with surgical evacuation following prompt diagnosis. This highlights the need to ensure infective pathologies are kept at the back of one ’s mind even in the most unlikely circumstances, and that excellent outcomes can be achieved with early surgical intervention.

Observational Study on Clinical Features and Management of Skull Base Osteomyelitis in Hospitalised Patients at a Tertiary Care Hospital
Abstract1. To study the various clinical presentations, microbiological and radiological profiles in patients of skull base osteomyelitis, to know about the underlying comorbidities or immunocompromised status and its relation to the disease and its management. 2. To study the effect of long term intravenous antimicrobial therapy with respect to clinical outcomes and radiological improvement and to study the long term outcomes of the treatment. This is an observational prospective and retrospective study. Thirty adult patients who were diagnosed with skull base osteomyelitis by clinical/microbiological and or radiological ...

Disseminating MSSA Infection in a Preterm Infant With Rare Finding of Spinal Epidural Abscess: A Case Report
Adv Neonatal Care. 2023 Mar 10. doi: 10.1097/ANC.0000000000001067. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) occurs more frequently in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) than methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and can result in comparable morbidity and mortality in the neonatal population. MSSA infection may present as pustulosis or cellulitis and evolve into bacteremia, pneumonia, endocarditis, brain abscesses, and osteomyelitis. There is a paucity of literature regarding the treatment and long-term outcomes in the premature infant.CLINICAL FINDINGS: A 32-week ...

Antibody response over time correlated with treatment outcome in 30 dogs naturally infected with Brucella canis (2017-2022)
Am J Vet Res. 2023 Mar 13:1-7. doi: 10.2460/ajvr.23.01.0014. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Brucella canis is a zoonotic bacterial pathogen of dogs that is notoriously difficult to diagnose and treat. Humans can become infected with B canis when an infected pet dog is brought into their home. Our objectives were to describe the clinical presentation and outcomes in dogs treated for B canis and evaluate the performance of the quantitative serologic canine Brucella multiplex (CBM) assay for monitoring treatment response.ANIMALS: Diagnostic records from the Animal Health Diagnostic Center at Cornell University were ...

Serious spondylodiscitis, septic sacroiliitis and multiple abscesses after ozone therapy for low back pain: A case report on good response to combined treatment with empiric antibiotic and neridronate
AbstractOzone therapy is a minimally invasive technique now widely used for the treatment of pain due to herniated discs. In literature there are conflicting results concerning its real effectiveness and few data about its possible complications. In this case report we present a case of spondylodiscitis, septic arthritis and gluteal abscess following the execution of 4 sessions of ozone therapy. Given the impossibility of isolating the etiological agent, an empirical antibiotic therapy with an overall duration of 6  weeks was set up, initially with daptomycin and ceftriazone, to which was added after 2 days metronidazo...

Foreign body impaction between diverticula: an uncommon cause of chronic abdominal pain
Rev Esp Enferm Dig. 2023 Jan 31;116. doi: 10.17235/reed.2023.9485/2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA woman in her 70s with a medical history of hypertension and dyslipidemia was admitted for colonoscopy due to long-term abdominal pain. During the procedure, a sharp cylindrical foreign body was identified in the sigmoid colon, imprisoned in two diametrically opposite diverticular orifices, with purulent drainage and exuberant reactive inflammatory tissue in each diverticulum. Carefully mobilization from both diverticular orifices into the colon lumen and safety removal were performed using a rat tooth forceps, without in...
