Acta Clin Croat. 2022 Oct;61(Suppl 4):56-62. doi: 10.20471/acc.2022.61.s4.7.ABSTRACTWe conducted a retrospective review of medical records using our institution electronic database with the purpose to identify factors that could influence postoperative pain after functional endoscopic sinus surgery. The studied factors were gender, age, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) status, duration of surgery, extent of surgery, primary versus revision surgery, and extent of nasal packing. One hundred and twenty-four patients were enrolled in this study, 60.5% of them male, mean age 48 years. The mean postoperative pain repo...

Septic < em > Mycobacterium Avium Intracellulare < /em > Extensor Tenosynovitis of the Wrist
We present an immunocompromised patient presenting with acute swelling and pain in the dorsum of the hand and wrist that underwent a wrist extensor tenosynovectomy with intraoperative cultures revealing infection with MAI. The patient developed severe progression of the infection with osteomyelitis of the distal forearm and carpal bones, multiple subsequent extensor tendon ruptures, and dorsal skin necrosis. The infection was eradicated with a combination of surgical treatment and antibiotic therapy. The case is discussed in context of the prior scant literature of infectious tenosynovitis of the hand, wrist, and upper ext...

Vibrio vulnificus pneumonia with multiorgan failure: a case report and review of the literature
ConclusionsPneumonia itself is an atypical manifestation ofVibrio vulnificus and furthermore, this patient was immunocompetent and did not exhibit the classical gastro-intestinal and skin manifestations. This case highlights the occurrence of atypicalVibrio sp. infections in patients with high exposure risks and the need for early supportive and appropriate antibiotic therapies.

Temporary arthrodesis through static spacer implantation in two-stage treatment of periprosthetic joint infections of the knee
Oper Orthop Traumatol. 2023 May 12. doi: 10.1007/s00064-023-00809-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Treatment of chronic periprosthetic joint infection of the knee requires the removal of the implant and thorough debridement, with reimplantation in a second stage surgery. Intramedullary spacers can be helpful during the interval between explantation and reimplantation and provide a temporary arthrodesis which fixes the knee in extension preserving leg length and administers local antibiotic therapy.INDICATIONS: Periprosthetic joint infection of the knee with large bony defects and severe infection of the native j...

Liver abscess due to Granulicatella adiacens in an immunocompetent patient: Case report
We present the case of an immunocompetent adult patient who presented 15 days of evolution consisting of quantified fever peaks associated with asthenia, adynamia, chills, jaundice and coluria. The initial clinical examination revealed a generalized icteric tint without abdominal pain, and blood pressure with a tendency to hypotension. Biliopancreatic confluent neoplasia, secondary cholangitis and sepsis of biliary origin were suspected, initiating fluid resuscitation and antibiotic therapy; blood cultures and complementary diagnostic studies were taken. Hepatobiliary ultrasound with evidence of an abscess of 73 x 62 mm in...
