Referral Pattern to a Tertiary Care Cancer Pain Clinic in India.

Abstract
The study aimed to identify patterns of patient referral from oncology services, including pain severity, prior analgesics, impact of patient's literacy on referral, and adequacy of pain relief offered by the pain clinic. A retrospective analysis of pain clinic data from August 2014 to February 2015 at the Tata Memorial Hospital was carried out, wherein adult cancer patients referred for the first time to the pain clinic were included. Clinical Characteristics, Pain, and Quality of Life Experiences of Trigeminal Neuralgia in a Multi-Ethnic Asian Cohort.
CONCLUSION: Clinical characteristics of TN patients were similar to those of other populations. There were differences in pain ratings and QoL between TN patients of different ethnicities, as well as between those with anxiety and depression.

Effects of Curcumin Treatment in a Diabetic Neuropathic Pain Model of Rats: Involvement of c-Jun N-Terminal Kinase Located in the Astrocytes and Neurons of the Dorsal Root Ganglion.
This study aimed to evaluate the beneficial effects of curcumin in a rat model of diabetic neuropathic pain. Additionally, we investigated the involvement of the phosphorylated form of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (pJNK) located in the neurons and astrocytes of the dorsal root ganglion (DRG). To induce diabetic neuropathic pain in rats, 50 mg/kg of streptozotocin (STZ) was intraperitoneally injected. After 4 weeks, rats were administered the vehicle, 10 mg/kg/day curcumin, or 50 mg/kg/day curcumin orally for 4 consecutive weeks. Low doses of amitriptyline, pregabalin, and gabapentin are preferred for management of neuropathic pain in India: is there a need for revisiting dosing recommendations?
CONCLUSIONS: Commonly prescribed drugs for management of neuropathic pain, such as amitriptyline, pregabalin, and gabapentin are preferred at lower doses in Indian clinical settings. Acceptable efficacy and low tolerance to the standard dosage is believed to be the reason behind the prescribed dose.
