Early detection of circulating tumor DNA and successful treatment with osimertinib in thr790met-positive leptomeningeal metastatic lung cancer: A case report
CONCLUSION: This report suggests clinical benefit of osimertinib in LM patients with positive detection of the EGFR-Thr790Met mutation in CSF and proposes that the positive findings of CSF circulating tumor DNA as a liquid biopsy technology based on the detection of cancer-associated gene mutations may appear earlier than the imaging and CSF findings and may thus be helpful for therapy. Moreover, the routine screening of chest CT with the novel coronavirus may provide unexpected benefits.PMID:36158482 | PMC:PMC9372865 | DOI:10.12998/wjcc.v10.i22.7968

Shot in the Dark
A 43-year-old woman presented with decreased vision in the right eye associated with painful eye movements 10 days after receiving her first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine (Pfizer Inc, New York, NY). Two days later she developed painful loss of vision in the left eye. Clinical presentation and magnetic resonance imaging findings were consistent with bilateral optic neuritis. Extensive evaluation including aquaporin-4 immunoglobin G (IgG), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein IgG, and lumbar puncture was unrevealing.

Anti-signal Recognition Particle Antibody-positive Immune-mediated Myopathy after mRNA-1273 SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination
Intern Med. 2022 Sep 13. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.0404-22. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 26-year-old Japanese woman developed a fever, myalgia and gait disturbance one day after receiving the second dose of the mRNA-1273 severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine. A neurological examination revealed symmetrical weakness and myalgia in proximal lower limbs, and a blood examination showed prominent elevation of creatinine kinase. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a high signal intensity in the thigh muscles on short-tau inversion recovery images, and antibody testing revealed positive...

Case report: Lympho-histiocytic meningoencephalitis with central nervous system vasculitis of unknown origin in three dogs
Front Vet Sci. 2022 Aug 24;9:944867. doi: 10.3389/fvets.2022.944867. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTMeningoencephalitis of unknown origin (MUO) is an umbrella term for a variety of subtypes of meningoencephalitis of dogs and cats with no identifiable infectious agent. In dogs, granulomatous meningoencephalitis (GME), necrotizing meningoencephalitis (NME), and necrotizing leukoencephalitis (NLE) are the most commonly reported subtypes. However, sporadically there are reports about other subtypes such as greyhound encephalitis or eosinophilic meningoencephalitis. The following case series presents three dogs with peracute to acute...

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy in clinical long-COVID-19 syndrome: a prospective case –control study
The underlying pathophysiology of post-coronavirus disease 2019 (long-COVID-19) syndrome remains unknown, but increased cardiometabolic demand and state of mitochondrial dysfunction have emerged as candidate m...

COVID-19 infection: from stress-related cortisol levels to adrenal glands infarction
Rom J Morphol Embryol. 2022 Jan-Mar;63(1):39-48. doi: 10.47162/RJME.63.1.03.ABSTRACTCortisol is a key element in acute stress including a severe infection. However, in coronavirus-associated disease, 20% of subjects experience hypocortisolemia due to direct or immune damage of pituitary and adrenal glands. One extreme form of adrenal insufficiency is found in 2∕3 of cases with viral and post-viral adrenal infarction (AI) (with∕without adrenal hemorrhage) that is mostly associated with a severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection; it requires prompt glucocorticoid intervention. Some reports are incidental find...
