Risk factors for deep neck infection in patients with sore throat and neck pain
CONCLUSION: Among patients with sore throat or neck pain, patients with dysphagia, foreign body sensation, severe pain, and submandibular pain are more likely to have DN. DNI can cause serious complications; therefore, patients with the above symptoms should be closely observed due to the potential for significant complications.PMID:37278070 | PMC:PMC10315931 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.28608

A closer look at the utilized radiation doses during computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) for COVID-19 patients
CONCLUSIONS: The increase in CT scans during the COVID-19 pandemic required close dose monitoring and optimization. The protocol used during CTPA should guarantee a minimum radiation dose with maximum patient benefits.PMID:37250685 | PMC:PMC10210819 | DOI:10.1016/j.radphyschem.2023.111025

COVID-19 and liver injury: Pathophysiology, risk factors, outcome and management in special populations
World J Hepatol. 2023 Apr 27;15(4):441-459. doi: 10.4254/wjh.v15.i4.441.ABSTRACTThe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 is an ongoing health concern. In addition to affecting the respiratory system, COVID-19 can potentially damage other systems in the body, leading to extra-pulmonary manifestations. Hepatic manifestations are among the common consequences of COVID-19. Although the precise mechanism of liver injury is still questionable, several mechanisms have been hypothesized, including direct viral effect, cytokine storm, hypoxic-ischemic injury, hypoxia-reperfus...

Multilocular thymic cyst detected during COVID ‑19 treatment in an HIV‑positive adult man: A case report and literature review
Exp Ther Med. 2023 Apr 28;25(6):285. doi: 10.3892/etm.2023.11984. eCollection 2023 Jun.ABSTRACTA multilocular thymic cyst (MTC) is a rare mediastinal tumor with multiloculated cyst-like structures in the anterior mediastinum. This tumfor is associated with inflammatory diseases, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The present study reports a case of MTC detected during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) treatment in an adult who was tested HIV positive. An anterior mediastinal tumor was incidentally detected on computed tomography in a 52-year-old man with a 20-year history of HIV infection on the 9th ...
