Effects of pulmonary rehabilitation in survivors of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. Role of vaccination
Monaldi Arch Chest Dis. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.4081/monaldi.2023.2738. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSurvivors of severe COVID-19 requiring hospital admission may suffer from short- and long-term sequelae, including disability and reduced physical performance. Vaccination and pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) are effective tools against COVID-19 effects. While the beneficial effect of each of these treatments is known, there are no data about their combined effect. In people admitted to PR hospitals after severe COVID-19 disease, we retrospectively analyzed whether PR outcome might be influenced by vaccination status. Ninety-six...

The nutritional impact of COVID-19 during hospital admission: a cross-sectional survey
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, is now recognised to impact the body in a broad variety of ways, including the negative impact on nutritional status. Identification of nutritional risk and consideration of nutrition support should be fundamental in this patient group1. The aim of the present survey was to characterise the nutritional impact of COVID-19 on patients hospitalised during the first wave of the pandemic.

Sit to stand test and handgrip strength in men and women with post-COVID-19 syndrome without invasive ventilator support: insights from a Brazilian observational study
Monaldi Arch Chest Dis. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.4081/monaldi.2023.2495. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTwo valid tests have been used in patients with post-COVID-19 syndrome (coronavirus disease 2019) due to their fast application, feasibility, and accessible procedures, facilitating data collection in large groups: the 1-minute sit-to-stand test (STS) and handgrip strength (HGS) dynamometry. The present study aimed to: i) assess the STS and HGS in men and women with post-COVID-19 syndrome who did not require invasive ventilator support; ii) correlate STS repetitions and HGS with time since the COVID-19 diagnosis. Six hundred ...

Association between post-COVID-19 status and perioperative morbidity and mortality: protocol for an ambispective cohort study
This study aims to explore the association between time to surgery after COVID-19 diagnosis and the risk of postoperative morbidity and mortality. Methods and analysis This is a single-centre ambispective cohort study. Patients with preoperative SARS-CoV-2 infection who require inpatient surgical intervention from 1 December 2022 to 28 February 2023 will be included. Baseline assessment will include the time interval between preoperative SARS-CoV-2 infection and surgery, COVID-19 diagnosis and symptoms, vaccination status and routine preoperative evaluations. The primary outcome will be postoperative composite complicatio...

Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 1910: Colorimetric RT-LAMP Detection of Multiple SARS-CoV-2 Variants and Lineages of Concern Direct from Nasopharyngeal Swab Samples without RNA Isolation
Adrian A. Vojnov Since, during the Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic, a large part of the human population has become infected, a rapid and simple diagnostic method has been necessary to detect its causative agent, the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-related Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), and control its spread. Thus, in the present study, we developed a colorimetric reverse transcription-loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) kit that allows the detection of SARS-CoV-2 from nasopharyngeal swab samples without the need for RNA extraction. The kit utilizes three sets of LAMP primers targeting two reg...
