Predictors of negative outcomes in hospitalized patients with SARS ‑CoV‑2 pneumonia: A retrospective study
Exp Ther Med. 2023 Jul 31;26(3):437. doi: 10.3892/etm.2023.12137. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTThe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic posed a serious threat to human health worldwide after the first case was identified in December 2019. Specific therapeutic options for COVID-19 are lacking; thus, the treatment of patients infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is complex in clinical practice. Despite the development of treatment options and methods to limit the spread of SARS-CoV-2, certain patients experience critical illness and numerous deaths have occurred. Notably, treatme...

Construction and application of prone position ventilation management scheme for severe COVID-19 patients
Background: Prone position ventilation (PPV) can significantly improve oxygenation index and blood oxygen saturation in most (70%–80%) patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome. However, although PPV is not an invasive procedure, there are many potential PPV-related complications, such as nerve compression, crush injury, venous stasis (e.g., facial oedema), pressure sores, retinal damage, vomiting, and arrhythmia, with an incidence of up to 56.9%. Nursing managers have focused on reducing the occurrence of PPV-related complications and improving safety. Objective: To construct a prone ventilation management scheme...

When can I get a Covid booster? Here's what to know about fall 2023 vaccines
This fall marks the first time that vaccines will be available to fight the triple threat of Covid-19, flu and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, which pose an increased risk to young children, elderly adults and immunocompromised people. Michael Greenberg, medical head of vaccines in North America at Sanofi ADR (Nasdaq: SNY), says last fall's "tripledemic" — when kids with RSV filled pediatric hospital units as the flu and coronavirus circulated in lockstep — is still fresh on people's minds. "What…

This fall marks the first time that vaccines will be available to fight the triple threat of Covid-19, flu, and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV. Michael Greenberg, medical head of vaccines in North America at Sanofi, says last fall's "tripledemic," when kids with RSV filled pediatric hospital units as the flu and coronavirus circulated in lockstep, is still fresh on people's minds. "What we saw this past year was that RSV doesn't happen in a vacuum," Greenberg said. "Easily the worst [RSV …

Comparison of Pediatric Acute Appendicitis Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic in New York City
Background:Acute appendicitis (AA) is the most common abdominal surgical emergency in children and adolescents. In the year immediately following the declaration of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), there was a precipitous decline in emergency department (ED) visits especially for surgical conditions and infectious diseases. Fear of exposure to severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 infection resulted in delay in presentation and time to surgery, and a shift toward more conservative management. Objective: Our goal was to compare the incidence and severity of AA before a...
