Design of a foundational sciences curriculum: Applying the ICAP framework to pharmacology education in integrated medical curricula
Comparison of pharmacology education practices at seven U.S. Allopathic medical schools revealed a mixture of teaching sessions where pharmacology was taught independently or in an integrated manner with other disciplines. Application of an active learning framework to the pedagogies used at these institutions suggests that integrated sessions are more active compared to standalone pharmacology sessions. We suggest a careful balance needs to be achieved between active and passive teaching approaches to avoid fragmenting and diluting the flow of topics in pharmacology education. Continuing perioperative estrogen therapy does not increase venous thromboembolic events in transgender patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Perioperative estrogen therapy does not increase VTE risk on male to female gender-affirming surgery. Therefore, estrogen therapy may be continued perioperatively in vaginoplasty. More prospective studies are needed.PMID:35442466 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202204_28488

A comparison of medical and pharmacy students′ knowledge and skills of pharmacology and pharmacotherapy
ConclusionsPharmacy students have better knowledge of basic pharmacology, but not of the application of pharmacology knowledge, than medical students, whereas medical students are better at writing prescriptions. Professionals’ differences in knowledge and skills therefore might well stem from their undergraduate education. Knowledge of these differences could be harnessed to develop a joint interdisciplinary education for both students and professionals.

Implementation of the WHO‐6‐step method in the medical curriculum to improve pharmacology knowledge and pharmacotherapy skills
ConclusionsThe WHO‐6‐step method was successfully implemented in a medical curriculum. In this observational study, the integrated learning programme had positive effects on students’ knowledge of basic and applied pharmacology, improved their pharmacotherapy skills, and increased satisfaction with education and self‐confidence in prescribing. Whether this training method leads to better patient care remains to be established.
