Pneumonia hospitalization after introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in Japan: Descriptive study using a nationwide claims database
CONCLUSION: Our study estimated 4-6 pneumonia hospitalizations per 1000 pediatric population in Japan, with a 34 % decrease after the introduction of PCV. Did the change of the vaccination schedule effect pneumococcal conjugate vaccination compliance and adherence of premature and mature born infants in Germany? Answers from a claims database analysis
CONCLUSION: There is no proven evidence that the reduced PCV schedule for mature infants induced a higher acceptance of vaccination. The rate of unvaccinated infants remained at a considerable level and vaccinations were often delayed. Although the STIKO still recommends a 3+1 PCV schedule for premature infants in Germany, less than half of children showed a completed vaccination series. To protect these vulnerable groups, efforts are needed to increase adherence to the STIKO recommendation especially for premature infants.PMID:37263871 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.05.045

Meningitis Risk and Role of Prophylactic Antibiotics in Spontaneous Lateral Skull Base CSF Leaks
CONCLUSIONS: There appears to be a low risk of meningitis among patients with lateral skull base sCSF leaks awaiting surgery for short durations (≤2 months), even in the absence of prophylactic antibiotics. There is a substantial gap in the published literature assessing the risk of meningitis and roles of antibiotics and vaccination in this patient population, indicating the need for large-scale study to conclusively elucidate the nature of this risk.PMID:37246394 | DOI:10.1177/00034894231177756
