Oncogenic β-catenin-driven liver cancer is susceptible to methotrexate-mediated disruption of nucleotide synthesis
CONCLUSION: MTX is a promising chemotherapeutic agent for β-catenin hyperactive liver cancer. Since repurposing MTX has the advantages of lower risk, shorter timelines, and less investment in drug discovery and development, a clinical trial is warranted to test its efficacy in the treatment of β-catenin mutant liver cancer.PMID:37612257 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002816

Rat Hepatitis E Virus in Norway Rats, Ontario, Canada, 2018-2021
Emerg Infect Dis. 2023 Sep;29(9):1890-1894. doi: 10.3201/eid2909.230517.ABSTRACTWe tested liver samples from 372 Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) from southern Ontario, Canada, during 2018-2021 to investigate presence of hepatitis E virus infection. Overall, 21 (5.6%) rats tested positive for the virus. Sequence analysis demonstrated all infections to be rat hepatitis E virus (Rocahepevirus ratti genotype C1).PMID:37610234 | DOI:10.3201/eid2909.230517

Immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced neurotoxicity is not associated with seroprevalence of neurotropic infections
CONCLUSION: Previous viral, bacterial and protozoal neurotropic infections appear not to be associated with the development of neurological irAEs in melanoma patients who underwent therapy with ICI across 3 countries. Further efforts are needed to unravel the factors underlying neurological irAEs in order to identify risk factors for these toxicities, especially with the increasing use of ICI in earlier stage disease.PMID:37606856 | DOI:10.1007/s00262-023-03498-0

Serum Expression Level of MicroRNA-122 and its Significance in different Stages of Hepatitis B Virus Infection
This study aims to determine the serum expression level of miRNA-122 and its significance in the different stages of Hepatitis B virus infection. The study subjects were recruited and grouped for Hepatitis B associated with Chronic Hepatitis B infection, hepatic sclerosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and healthy controls were also considered. Venous blood was collected from the participants including the controls and routine blood tests and quantification of miRNA-122 were done and analyzed in each case of hepatitis B infection and compared with that of healthy controls. The miRNA-122 was determined, which came to be highest...

The transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection from mother-to-infant (MTI) and the susceptibility of offspring to hepatitis B under intrauterine exposure to HBsAg
CONCLUSIONS: Therefore, we speculated that these signaling pathways and the genes within may be closely related to hepatitis B susceptibility and maternal hepatitis B inheritance. In this study, we showed that differentially expressed genes and signaling pathways may be valuable in preventing MTI transmission of HBV.PMID:37606146 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202308_33309
