Understanding primary care perspectives on supporting women's health needs: a qualitative study
CONCLUSION: The findings show that relationships and advocacy are valued as fundamental for women's health in general practice, and highlight the adverse impact of threats to these on staff and services. Developing specialist roles and bespoke services can foster staff wellbeing and could support retention. However, care is needed to ensure that service configuration changes do not result in clinician deskilling or rendering services inaccessible. Care is needed when services evolve to ensure that core aspects of general practice are not diminished or devalued. GP teams are well placed to advocate for their patients, inclu...

Association of pain neurophysiology knowledge and application amongst UK chiropractic students: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Chiropractic placement students in the United Kingdom appear to have a lower level of pain knowledge than other health care professionals and education institutions may wish to consider how to best address this within their curricula.PMID:37721388 | DOI:10.7899/JCE-22-27

Do both anticipated relief and anticipated regret predict decisions about influenza vaccination?
CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest that, regardless of valence, counterfactual emotions predict vaccination intention and, indirectly, behaviour. Furthermore, participants may differ in their sensitivity to the anticipation of positive versus negative counterfactual emotions. These findings may permit more precise targeting of interventions to increase vaccine uptake.PMID:37722923 | DOI:10.1111/bjhp.12691

Exploring patient experiences of participating in digital cardiac rehabilitation: A qualitative study
CONCLUSIONS: Participants reported that digital CR guided them towards recovery and improved their sense of empowerment and control. However, the limited opportunities for social interaction may represent a challenge for patients seeking social support.PMID:37722874 | DOI:10.1111/bjhp.12692

The longitudinal contribution of mapping to arithmetic: Do numeral knowledge, inhibition or analogical reasoning matter?
CONCLUSION: Analogical reasoning, rather than numeral knowledge or inhibitory control, may drive that association in young children.PMID:37722852 | DOI:10.1111/bjep.12633

The effectiveness of self: A meta-analysis of using self-referential encoding techniques in education
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that incorporating self-referential encoding techniques on negative materials shows an aversive effect. Overall, there is a universal benefit to using self-referential encoding techniques as an appropriate design guideline in educational contexts. Implications for teaching practice and future directions are discussed. Further studies are needed to investigate the effectiveness in more diverse educational and teaching situations.PMID:37722845 | DOI:10.1111/bjep.12636

Efficacy and safety of ciclosporin versus methotrexate in the treatment of severe atopic dermatitis in children and young people (TREAT): a multicentre, parallel group, assessor-blinded clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: Both CyA and MTX proved effective in CYP with severe AD over 36 weeks. CyA showed a more rapid response to treatment, while MTX induced more sustained disease control after discontinuation.PMID:37722926 | DOI:10.1093/bjd/ljad281

How do new runners maintain their running, and what leads to others stopping? A qualitative, longitudinal study
Psychol Sport Exerc. 2023 Aug 23;70:102515. doi: 10.1016/j.psychsport.2023.102515. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMany people who start running do not maintain their behaviour change. We used qualitative, longitudinal methods to explore and interpret the experiences of new runners and answer the question, "What experiences explain how new runners maintain their running or explain why they stop?" We interviewed 20 new runners (all White British, 14 women, 6 men) about their experiences; we interviewed 10 until they stopped running and 10 until they maintained running for 6-12 months (65 interviews in total). We also conducte...

Revisiting the academic self-concept transcultural measurement model: The case of Spain and China
CONCLUSION: These two differences may be behind the difficulty in finding invariance using SEM models. It is a question of the construct's nature, less related to analytical phenomena, and deserves deeper discussion.PMID:37715352 | DOI:10.1111/bjep.12635

Interleukin-37 gene expression is down-regulated in patients with acute myeloid leukemia and shown to be affected by CD14 and HLA-DR immunophenotypes
In conclusion, IL37 mRNA expression was down-regulated in AML patients, especially females, and those with the FAB M4 type and the WHO PML-RARA type. This expression may be affected by the immunophenotypic markers CD14 and HLA-DR.PMID:37716188 | DOI:10.1016/j.cyto.2023.156368

Cross-sectional direct and indirect relationships between the corrupted feared self and obsessive-compulsive symptoms in a clinical sample: The role of mental contamination
CONCLUSIONS: The fear of being corrupted may be associated with feelings of contamination in the absence of direct contact with a contaminant, which may then predict OCD symptoms of repugnant obsessional thoughts and contact contamination concerns. The corrupted feared self and mental contamination should therefore be targeted in treatments for repugnant obsessions and contamination-related OCD.PMID:37715987 | DOI:10.1111/bjc.12440

Hidradenitis suppurativa: New insights into disease mechanisms and an evolving treatment landscape
Br J Dermatol. 2023 Sep 16:ljad345. doi: 10.1093/bjd/ljad345. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHidradenitis suppurativa (HS), also known as acne inversa, is a chronic disabling and debilitating inflammatory disease with high unmet medical need. The prevalence of HS is 1-2% in most studies, although it is likely underreported and estimates vary globally due to variance in data collection methods, ethnicity, geographical location, and underdiagnosis. HS is characterized by persistent, painful cutaneous nodules, abscesses, and draining tunnels commonly affecting the axillary, anogenital, inguinal, and perianal/gluteal areas. Ove...
