Prognostic significance of prolonged corrected QT interval in cerebral contusion
CONCLUSIONS: ECG changes on admission showing a prolonged QTc interval have prognostic significance in CC. This simple and easily applicable information should be taken into consideration at the time of clinical decision making which may prevent an adverse events survivor.PMID:37706372 | DOI:10.4103/ijmr.ijmr_3629_21

Association of < em > CYP3A5*3, CYP3A4*18 & amp; CYP2B6*6 < /em > polymorphisms with imatinib treatment outcome in Azerbaijani chronic myeloid leukaemia patients
CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrated that CYP3A4*18 was significantly associated with IM treatment response in patients with CML in Azerbaijan, whereas rather common CYP3A5*3 was identified to have no such association.PMID:37706370 | DOI:10.4103/ijmr.ijmr_1103_22

Infections due to Salmonella sp. in children with chronic granulomatous disease: Our experience from North India
Clin Immunol. 2023 Sep 11:109769. doi: 10.1016/j.clim.2023.109769. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInfections with non-typhoidal Salmonella sp. have been documented in children with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), but the prevalence of salmonella infection in children with CGD in underdeveloped countries is unknown. We assessed the clinical profiles of CGD patients diagnosed at our tertiary care centre in north India and had Salmonella sp.infections. We found three patients with Salmonella sp. bloodstream infections (2-proven, 1-probable) among the 99 CGD patients. After receiving cotrimoxazole prophylaxis following a C...

Early-Career Compensation Trends Among Family Physicians
CONCLUSIONS: Though income is only one factor physicians consider in deciding where and how to work, it is concerning to see lower incomes among groups that traditionally experience shortages (eg, geriatrics and government-associated practice sites). Differences in expected income among family physicians choosing different work may exacerbate workforce challenges.PMID:37704388 | DOI:10.3122/jabfm.2023.230039R1

Pediatric Sepsis: New Strategies for Reducing Sepsis Related Mortality
Indian Pediatr. 2023 Sep 11:S097475591600571. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSepsis is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in children. Timely recognition and management of sepsis with fluid resuscitation and antibiotic administration leads to better clinical outcomes. However, clinical recognition of sepsis in children is challenging given its rare occurrence, the overlap of clinical features with other common febrile illness, lack of specific diagnostic biomarkers, and the ability of children to compensate until the late stages of shock. Despite updating of pediatric sepsis definition and implementation o...

Longitudinal Growth and Undernutrition Burden Among Term Low Birth Weight Newborns Reared in Adverse Socioeconomic Conditions in Delhi
CONCLUSION: With appropriate counselling of parents, term low birth weight infants reared under adverse socioeconomic conditions show substantial catch-up growth in BMIZ and WAZ but not in HAZ. The long-term consequences of this excess weight over length gain need focused evaluation.PMID:37700585

Effect of Oral Zinc Supplementation on Serum Bilirubin Levels in Term Neonates With Hyperbilirubinemia Undergoing Phototherapy: A Double-blind Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSION: Oral zinc sulfate supplementation at a dose of 5 mg once a day along with phototherapy significantly reduced total and indirect serum bilirubin levels and also reduced the total duration of phototherapy required in the term neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, with minimal or no adverse effects.PMID:37700584

A retrospective study on newborn screening for metabolic disorders
Bioinformation. 2022 Dec 31;18(12):1122-1125. doi: 10.6026/973206300181122. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThe process of testing newborn infants for hormonal, genetic, metabolic, and other disorders is known as newborn screening (NSB). Newborn screening is essential for detecting, diagnosing, and treating disorders that could save serious consequences for a newborn's health. Congenital Hypothyroidism (CH), Cystic Fibrosis (CF), Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, and Profound Biotinidase deficiency (BD) are common disorders in India. A retrospective analysis of the results of NBS by Cord blood spots was perform...
