Development of antibiotic resistance in animals not receiving antibiotic therapy
C R Biol. 2023 Aug 31. doi: 10.5802/crbiol.116. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe fight against antibiotic resistance in the animal sector over the last ten years in France (Ecoantibio plans) has largely focused on reducing the veterinary use of antibiotics. However, antibiotic resistance in an animal is not necessarily due to antibiotic therapy, but can also result from the transmission of resistant bacteria or resistance plasmids. Several examples illustrate the importance of this transmission of antibiotic resistance in the animal world, which are detailed in this communication. Like in human medicine, this nosocomial t...

Parental occupational exposure to solvents and risk of developing testicular germ cell tumors among sons: a French nationwide case-control study (TESTIS study)
CONCLUSION: Overall, no solid association was found between parental occupational exposure to solvents and TGCT risk. The association found with maternal occupational exposure to fuels and petroleum solvents among older men needs further investigation.PMID:37649372 | DOI:10.5271/sjweh.4102

Douglas-fir plantations impact stream and groundwater chemistry in western Europe: Insights from three case studies in France and Luxembourg
This study also shows that nitrate concentrations in surface and ground waters in rural areas could also originate from Douglas fir forested catchments. The impact of Douglas-fir is nevertheless reduced downstream through a dilution effect: mixing tree species at the catchment scale could thus be a solution to mitigate the effect of Douglas-fir on nitrate concentration in surface waters.PMID:37652225 | DOI:10.1016/j.envpol.2023.122477

Chest. 2023 Aug 29:S0012-3692(23)05371-0. doi: 10.1016/j.chest.2023.08.020. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Data are scarce regarding epidemiology and management of critically ill patients with lung abscesses.RESEARCH QUESTION: What are the clinical and microbiological characteristics of critically ill patients with lung abscesses, how are they managed in the ICUs, and what are the risk factors of in-ICU mortality?STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Retrospective observational multicenter study, based on ICD-10 codes, between 2015 and 2022 in France.
