MRI-detected subclinical joint inflammation is associated with radiographic progression
Conclusions Radiographic progression was infrequent, but joints with subclinical inflammation had an increased risk of radiographic progression within year 1. This demonstrates the relevance of MRI-detected subclinical inflammation.

Utility of apparent diffusion coefficient in characterization of different sinonasal pathologies.
CONCLUSION: DW-MRI did not add significantly to the information gained from conventional MRI. It should be considered complimentary only to standard MRI in uncertain cases when malignancy is still a concern. PMID: 25198015 [PubMed - in process]

Juvenile recurrent parotitis in children: Diagnosis and treatment using sialography
Vanga V Narsimha Rao, Jai Shankar Homberhali Putta Buddi, Ameet J KurthukotiJournal of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry 2014 32(3):262-265Juvenile recurrent parotitis (JRP) is a nonobstructive, nonsuppurative parotid inflammation in young children. Causative factors are many such as allergy, infection, local autoimmune manifestations, and genetic inheritance have been suggested, but none have been proved. Parotid sialography is a hallmark in the diagnosis of JRP but newer modalities such as ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging-sialography are noninvasive investigative te...

Cardiac and Muscular Involvement in Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies: Noninvasive Diagnostic Assessment and the Role of Cardiovascular and Skeletal Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
Abstract Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) are rare autoimmune diseases and include dermatomyositis, polymyositis, necrotizing myopathy and inclusion body myositis; they are characterized by inflammation of skeletal muscle and other internal organs and may potentially lead to irreversible damage and death. Only a small percentage of IIM has clinically overt cardiac disease; however, heart involvement is one of the leading causes of death and therefore, early detection remains a challenge. Biochemical markers and non-invasive methods such as the electrocardiogram and echocardiography have a role in diagnosi...

The effects of tocilizumab on osteitis, synovitis and erosion progression in rheumatoid arthritis: results from the ACT-RAY MRI substudy
Conclusions Rapid suppression of synovitis and osteitis with reduction in structural joint damage progression occurred with TCZ, as monotherapy or in combination with MTX, through week 52.

The relationship between longitudinal serum leptin measures and measures of magnetic resonance imaging-assessed knee joint damage in a population of mid-life women
Conclusions Leptin levels 10 years prior to MRI assessment were associated with the presence of cartilage defects, bone marrow lesions, osteophytes, meniscal tears, synovitis and effusion among a population of middle-aged women. Understanding the role that leptin plays in the joint degradation process is critical for development of more targeted interventions for osteoarthritis.

Autosomal recessive phosphoglucomutase 3 (PGM3) mutations link glycosylation defects to atopy, immune deficiency, autoimmunity, and neurocognitive impairment
Conclusions: Autosomal recessive hypomorphic PGM3 mutations underlie a disorder of severe atopy, immune deficiency, autoimmunity, intellectual disability, and hypomyelination.

Schwannomas of the sinonasal tract and anterior skull base: A systematic review of 94 cases.
CONCLUSION: ASB and sinonasal schwannomas are rare lesions and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of ASB masses involving the cribriform plate with sinonasal extension. Gross total resection of these lesions should be considered the goal of operative management. PMID: 24717879 [PubMed - in process]

Regional and socioeconomic disparities in emergency department use of radiographic imaging for acute pediatric sinusitis.
CONCLUSION: The use of ED imaging in APS is appropriately associated with factors known to be associated with APS complications. However, additional disparities with respect to regional and socioeconomic factors exist. Interventions to eliminate these health care disparities in use of imaging resources may lead to quality improvement in care and outcomes for APS. PMID: 24717874 [PubMed - in process]

An unusual case of progressive cerebellar ataxia
Conclusion Oculomotor apraxia, although included in the acronym, is not obligatory for diagnosis of AOA2. A range of movement disorders including tremor, chorea and dystonia may be present in approximately 14% of the patients.1 AFP level may occasionally be in the upper range of normal and may increase with time. AFP is an important biomarker for recessive ataxias and should be included in the investigation of recessive cerebellar ataxias or adolescent movement disorders of unknown aetiology.

Weight loss, encephalopathy, urinary difficulties and numb feet in a nigerian man
We described the first case of the TTR Leu12Pro mutation in 1999. To date it has been only described in a total of 3 patients, all European. Here we describe the first report of the TTR Leu12Pro variant in an African patient.

Faciobrachial dystonic seizures: two cases alike, but not the same
Conclusion Our cases emphasise the different clinical features, different imaging features and EEG's seen with this condition and we hope to raise awareness of the importance of early clinical recognition, investigation and appropriate immunosuppresion.

Probing the potential for functional recovery in patients with neuromyelitis optica using visuomotor practice
Conclusion Refuting our initial hypothesis, we found that visuomotor improvements in patients were comparable to those of healthy volunteers, suggesting that plasticity is preserved in NMO. Damage to functional "bottlenecks" did not appear to be a factor in preventing visuomotor improvement with practice, suggesting that the limits of adaptive plasticity in NMO may result from a complex interaction between distribution, location and type of damage. The effect of cognitive dysfunction on the ability to improve performance in the more cognitively demanding task condition emphasises the importance of tailoring recovery–...
