Factors Affecting Food Allergy-Related Quality of Life From Parents' Perception in Turkish Children.
CONCLUSIONS: The Turkish FAQLQ-PF is a valid and reliable scale. FA-related QoL was significantly worse with age. Coexistent asthma, anaphylaxis regardless of its severity, cow's milk allergy, sibling allergy and the older and educated mothers seem to poorly affect QoL. PMID: 29949834 [PubMed]

Mammalian Meat Allergy Accompanied by Venom Allergy: A Review of 12 Cases.
In this study, we have emphasized that  Ixodes ricinus named tick type which is implicated in meat allergy, is found in domestic animals of Black Sea Region of Turkey. A new concept has been recently raized; suggesting that having an alpha-gal allergy is associated with an increased risk of sensitization to multiple venom spesific immunoglobulin (Ig) E. Our aim is to evaluate the clinical characteristics of adult patients with MMA and its relationship with insect sting reactions in Turkey. Patients referring to the allergy outpatient clinic with possible MMA were interviewed regarding reactions to a stinging insect. Demog...

Change in Allergy Practice during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Conclusions: Allergists in Turkey have been using telemedicine at a high rate during the COVID-19 pandemic for asthma and rhinitis. The continuation rate of SCIT was low while the discontinuation rate of biologicals and systemic steroid use in asthma was high in Turkey. Our study results and learning from the experiences of other countries and specialties may help to optimize allergy practice and compatibility with international guidelines.Int Arch Allergy Immunol

High Usage of Complementary and Alternative Medicine among Turkish Asthmatic Children.
In conclusion; the prevalance of reported CAM use among Turkish asthmatic childrenwas found to be high (66 %), with herbal medicine being the most popular modality. The results of this study shows that CAM use becomes more prevelant among asthmatic children from families with low income. It will be increasingly important for physicians who care for allergic children to be aware of high CAM usage. PMID: 26547709 [PubMed - in process]

The diagnostic challenge of sesame allergy
We read, with great interest, 3 recent publications in The Annals regarding sesame allergy,1 –3 which are relevant given its increasing prevalence.4 Ocak et al1 evaluated the diagnostic ability of sesame-specific IgE (ssIgE) and sesame skin prick testing (sSPT) in 92 Turkish patients and found that ssIgE did not predict oral food challenge (OFC) outcomes, whereas sSPT did, with a threshol d of 5.25 mm. In a review of 190 patients with allergy to sesame in Israel, Mahlab-Guri et al2 found spontaneous resolution in approximately one-third of patients.

Clericuzio-type Poikiloderma with Neutropenia Syndrome in a Turkish Family: a Three Report of Siblings with Mutation in the C16orf57 gene.
Abstract Clericuzio-type poikiloderma with neutropenia (PN) is characterized by poikiloderma, non-cyclic  neutropenia,  recurrent  sinopulmonary  infections,  pachyonychia,  and  palmo- plantar hyperkeratosis. Mutations in the C16orf57 gene, which is located on chromosome 16q13, have been identified as the cause of PN. PN was first described by Clericuzio in Navajo Indians. Herein, we reported the clinical presentations and laboratory investigations of PN in three siblings from Turkey. The older siblings presented with typical cutaneous poikiloderma, plantar keratoderma, pachyonychia of toenails, and recurre...

Cutaneous drug reactions to antiepileptic drugs and relation with HLA alleles in the Turkish population.
Conclusion. Although our preliminary results did not indicate a strong allele association with AED hypersensitivity, HLA-B*35:02 appears to be a candidate allele for MPE / DRESS / DIHSS induced by AED's in Turkish population. Further studies with a larger sample size may result in more comprehensive data about the genetic tendency for AED hypersensitivity in the Turkish population. PMID: 29350020 [PubMed - in process]

Drug allergy
“Veni, vidi, vici” [I came, I saw, I conquered], said Julius Caesar in 47 bc in a letter to the Roman Senate after achieving a swift, conclusive victory against Pharnaces of Pontus in the battle of Zela in northern Turkey.1 A modern version of the determined words of Julius Caesar can be applied to drug allergy: first, come and spend time learning about the reaction, observe the signs and symptoms, or look at the pictures sent by the patient; second, observe the phenotype, understand the endotype, and get help from the biomarkers (tryptase, skin test, challenge, genotype); and third, provi de an appropriate treatment o...

Atopic Dermatitis in the Pediatric Population: A Cross-sectional, International, Epidemiologic Study.
CONCLUSION: This global survey in 18 countries showed that AD affects a substantial proportion of the pediatric population. Although prevalence and severity varied across age groups and countries, <15% had severe AD. PMID: 33421555 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Turkish teachers' self-efficacy to manage food allergy and anaphylaxis: A psychometric testing study.
CONCLUSIONS: The results supported that the SPSMFAA-T was a valid and reliable measurement tool to assess Turkish teachers' self-efficacy levels to manage food allergy and anaphylaxis in school setting. The scale can be used in education programs to improve school personnel's skills to manage food allergy and anaphylaxis. PMID: 31174852 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The frequency of cross-reactivity with various avian eggs among children with hen's egg allergy using skin prick test results: fewer sensitizations with pigeon and goose egg.
CONCLUSION: Because of fewer sensitizations to some avian eggs, further research should clarify starting oral immunotherapy with the yolk of goose and pigeon in children with hen's egg allergy. PMID: 32007321 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prevalence of allergic disorders and risk factors associated with food allergy in Turkish preschoolers.
CONCLUSIONS: Although the introduction of egg-white into infant diet at 6-12 months of life appeared as an independent risk for any food allergy, none of the patients developed anaphylaxis. Age at symptom onset and outgrowing food allergy were similar compared to those introduced egg-white after 12 months. We recommend promoting exclusive breastfeeding during the first 6 months of life, and avoidance of prolonged restrictive diets for children with food allergy.
