Impact of allergic reactions and urticaria on mental health and quality of life
CONCLUSION: Our results provide evidence for a possible correlation of allergies (e.g. against insect venom, food/food additives, and drugs) and/or urticaria with a reduced QoL and a higher depression rate. Patients particularly indicated restrictions for the dimensions, pain/discomfort as well as anxiety/depression. It might be beneficial to implement a standardized questionnaire as a regular screening method for evaluating the mental health status of patients with allergies and/or urticaria.PMID:35257555 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v50i2.525

Real-life experience with hazelnut oral immunotherapy
CONCLUSION: H-OIT appeared effective and well accepted by children. This is counterbalanced by a high rate of H-OIT discontinuation, mainly due to aversion to hazelnut, and an important rate of adverse reactions, which are however mostly mild.PMID:35007745 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2022.01.002

Primary prevention of food allergy in 2021: Update and proposals of French-speaking pediatric allergists
Arch Pediatr. 2021 Dec 23:S0929-693X(21)00241-4. doi: 10.1016/j.arcped.2021.11.009. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDuring the past years, there has been an alarming increase in cases of food allergy and anaphylaxis in ever-younger children. Often, these children have multiple food allergies and food sensitizations, involving allergens with high anaphylactic potential, such as peanuts and nuts, which have a major influence on their quality of life and future. After reviewing the current epidemiological data, we discuss the main causes of the increase in food allergies. We analyze data from studies on the skin barrier and its...

Whispers of change in childhood asthma: findings in the French ELFE cohort
Early life asthma phenotyping remains an unmet need in pediatric asthma; necessary to overcome the underdiagnoses and increased morbidity in childhood.  Phenotyping of asthma in France has been exclusively focused on severe pediatric asthma, and till date phenotypes of childhood asthma in the general population have not been ascertained. We aimed to determine wheezing profiles and asthma phenotypes in preschool children in French general population.Symptoms were determined using parental responses to modified versions of ISAAC questionnaire from 2 months to age 5. Supervised wheeze clusters were determined exclusively...

Children who underwent a flexible bronchoscopy for severe asthma exploration were retrospectively included between April 2017 and September 2019.Results: A total of 203 children were included, 107 had a BAL and 96 did not.
