Unplanned 30-Day ER Visit Rate and Factors Associated With ER Visits After Ambulatory Sinus Surgery
CONCLUSION: The most common reason for ER visit after ambulatory sinus procedures was bleeding. An increased ER visit rate was associated with certain demographic factors and medical comorbidities but not with procedure characteristics. This information can help us identify the patient populations who are at higher risk for ER visits to improve their postoperative recovery.PMID:37198899 | DOI:10.1177/19458924231174686

The Emerging Role of Child Life Specialists in the Pediatric Food Allergy Clinic
Allergic individuals experience a greater psychological burden compared to their non-allergic counterparts, with clinical anxiety disorders being over-represented within allergic populations.1 In the case of food allergy, this can be largely attributed to the constant vigilance and fear of experiencing an allergic reaction; however, the fear and distress associated with medical visits and necessary procedures must also be accounted for. Oper Orthop Traumatol. 2023 May 12. doi: 10.1007/s00064-023-00809-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Treatment of chronic periprosthetic joint infection of the knee requires the removal of the implant and thorough debridement, with reimplantation in a second stage surgery. Intramedullary spacers can be helpful during the interval between explantation and reimplantation and provide a temporary arthrodesis which fixes the knee in extension preserving leg length and administers local antibiotic therapy.INDICATIONS: Periprosthetic joint infection of the knee with large bony defects and severe infection of the native j...

Associations between functional constipation and non-IgE-mediated food allergy in infants and children
CONCLUSION: Our results showed that the incidence of food allergy in infants and children with FC was 15%, which was mainly mediated by non-IgE-FA. The main clinical symptoms or signs in these cases included anal fissure, abdominal pain, and pain during defecation, and the main allergens included milk, eggs, fish, and shrimp.PMID:37169574 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v51i3.738

Characterization of a group of children with eosinophilic esophagitis in Cali, Colombia
CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients with EoE were females. The most frequent symptom was abdominal pain. Endoscopic abnormalities were also observed frequently, and the prevalence of other allergic diseases (especially rhinitis) and allergenic sensitization (especially to mites) was high.PMID:37169558 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v51i3.729
