Oral Immunotherapy for Multiple Foods in a Pediatric Allergy Clinic Setting.
CONCLUSION: A similar approach to that used for peanut OIT can be taken for non-peanut foods, and for multiple foods simultaneously. High baseline allergy test results are not a contraindication to OIT. PMID: 31494236 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Bovine Serum Albumin: a double allergy risk.
Authors: Voltolini S, Spigno F, Cioè A, Cagnati P, Bignardi D, Minale P Abstract We analyse two cases of Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) allergy. The first regards a female laboratory technician with a history of bronchial asthma due to cat allergy, who developed an exacerbation of bronchial symptoms as a consequence of BSA powder inhalation at work. To date, sensitization to BSA as a cause of occupational asthma has rarely been reported in the scientific literature. The second case concerns a woman with a similar cat sensitivity, who presented an oral allergy syndrome-type clinical reaction, gastric pain and diarrhoea...

Oral allergy syndrome amongst young Mexicans: prevalence and associated factors.
Conclusions. Notably, the prevalence of OAS varies according to the geographic area. Personal histories of allergy to pollen or latex were the main factors linked to OAS. PMID: 29533053 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole-induced aseptic meningitis-not just another sulfa allergy.
CONCLUSION: TMP-SMX is the most common antibiotic to cause drug-induced aseptic meningitis. By being aware of this reaction, allergists are well poised to diagnose TSIAM and prevent future reoccurrences for the patient. PMID: 25240332 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Eperisone-Induced Anaphylaxis: Pharmacovigilance Data and Results of Allergy Testing.
CONCLUSIONS: Incidence of eperisone-induced anaphylaxis calculated from the KIDS-KAERS database was 0.001%. Eperisone can cause hypersensitive reactions, including anaphylaxis, possibly by inducing non-immunoglobulin E-mediated immediate hypersensitivity. PMID: 30661315 [PubMed]

Iodinated contrast media allergy in patients hospitalized for investigation of chest pain
Conclusion PCI did not induce substantial allergic reactions to ICM in patients with a previously diagnosed allergy. This study did not demonstrate an advantage for premedication.

Epinephrine Use in Positive Oral Food Challenges Performed as Screening Test for Food Allergy Therapy Trials
Conclusions Screening OFCs to confirm food allergies can be performed safely, but there was a higher rate of epinephrine use compared with OFCs used for assessing food allergy outgrowth. Therefore, personnel skilled and experienced in the recognition of early signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis who can promptly initiate treatment are required.

Cutaneous allergy: control that itch-scratch cycle!
Recent publications in The Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology have documented the pain and suffering associated with cutaneous allergy.1,2 In the current issue of The Annals, Jonathan Silverberg reviews a number of comorbid health problems associated with atopic dermatitis (AD). Of greatest interest to allergists, AD predisposes to a higher risk of food allergy, eosinophilic esophagitis, and respiratory allergy.3 The systemic effects of AD are also manifested by a higher risk for infectious and cardiovascular risk.

M306 recurring gastrointestinal symptoms as a novel presentation of alpha-gal allergy
Galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose (alpha-gal) allergy, a delayed allergy after ingestion of mammalian meat, was first documented in 2006. Symptoms range from urticaria to anaphylaxis with concomitant gastrointestinal manifestations. There are no case reports of adults with abdominal pain as the sole symptom of this allergy. This case depicts gastrointestinal symptoms as the only manifestation of an alpha-gal allergy.

Intestinal lymphoid nodular hyperplasia in children: The relationship to food allergy
ConclusionsIntestinal LNH should be considered a benign finding in children without red flags, because the symptoms are largely self‐limiting. The use of mesalamine or elimination diet does not modify the clinical outcome compared to symptomatic therapy. The presence of food allergy was not predicted by allergy skin testing and was found in a minority of patients.

Allergic Contact Dermatitis To Fentanyl TTS With Good Tolerance To Systemic Fentanyl.
CONCLUSION: We present the case of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) due to hypersensitivity to fentanyl with good tolerance to buprenorphine. Positive PT in this patient suggests a type IV hypersensitivity mechanism. Allergic reactions to opioids are frequently immediate, but delayed reactions could appear, especially when the drug is administered topically. PMID: 31131754 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Comparison of Adult Food-Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome to Crustaceans and Immediate-Type Food Allergy
CONCLUSION: FPIES and FA can be clearly differentiated by the abdominal symptoms, latency period, and duration of episodes. Furthermore, some FPIES patients do not necessarily need to avoid all crustaceans. Our findings lay the groundwork for establishing an algorithm that distinguishes FPIES from FA in adults.PMID:37330046 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2023.06.007
