Dynamic Metal-ligand Coordination for Fluorescence Color Regulation of Hydrazone-based Bistable Photoswitches
In this study, we designed and synthesized a hydrazone compound 1, ethyl (Z)-2-(2-([2,2':6',2''-terpyridin]-4'-yl)hydrazineylidene)-2-(4-(diphenylamino)phenyl)acetate, which possesses a push-pull structure incorporating triphenylamine and terpyridine. The emission intensity of compound 1 can be repeatedly switched "off" and "on" by irradiation with visible light and UV light, which induces the isomerization transition between the Z and E forms. In addition, compound 1 is capable of changing its emission wavelength from 540 nm to 607 nm through coordination with different zinc salts in toluene/CH2Cl2 mixture (v:v = 1:1). Im...

Size, Surface Properties, and Ion Release of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles: Effects on Cytotoxicity, Dopaminergic Gene Expression, and Acetylcholinesterase Inhibition in Neuronal PC-12 Cells
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03832-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe extensive applications of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) have resulted in a substantial risk of human exposure. However, the knowledge of the toxicity of these NPs in the nervous system is still limited. A comparative analysis of ZnO NPs of various sizes and NPs of the same size, with and without surface coating, and the potential role of released zinc ions is yet to be thoroughly explored. As a result, we have studied the cellular toxicity of two different-sized ZnO NPs, ZnO-22 (22 nm) and ZnO-43 (43 nm), and NPs with ...

Evaluation of the Therapeutic Effect of Curcumin-Conjugated Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles on Reserpine-Induced Depression in Wistar Rats
In conclusion, curcumin-conjugated zinc oxide nanoparticles demonstrate potent antidepressant effects, alleviating depressive-like behavior in rats. These findings support Zn(cur)O NPs as a promising therapeutic strategy for depression management, warranting further investigation and clinical validation.PMID:37713054 | DOI:10.1007/s12011-023-03849-z

The Facile Synthesis of Eco-Friendly Zinc Magnesium Bimetal Nanoparticles and its Application in the Eradication of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae that Causes Leaf Blight Disease of Rice
Curr Microbiol. 2023 Sep 15;80(11):340. doi: 10.1007/s00284-023-03455-1.ABSTRACTIn this research work, we formulated and successfully assessed the antibacterial capability of zinc magnesium bimetal nanoparticles (ZnMgNPs) against Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), the pathogenic microorganism responsible for causing the destructive leaf blight disease in rice. Successful preparation of ZnMgNPs were determined by UV-vis spectroscopy, EDX (Energy dispersive X-ray), FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). ZnMgNPs had antibacterial efficacy towards Xoo at MIC (minimum inhibitory concentratio...

Fabrication of Nickel/Zinc Oxide Nanocomposites from Citrus sinensis Extract Prompts Apoptosis Through Impeding JAK/STAT3 Signaling in Gastric Cancer
In this study, we sought to fabricate nickel/zinc oxide nanocomposites utilizing Citrus sinensis (C. sinensis) peel extract (CS-Ni/ZnO NCs) and investigate their ability to impede the JAK/STAT3 signaling pathway in gastric cancer AGS cells. Different methods, including UV-Vis spectral analysis, FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDAX, DLS, and zeta potential, were used to characterize the fabricated CS-Ni/ZnO NCs. By measuring ROS, MMP, and apoptotic cell death using the appropriate fluorescence describing procedures, the anticancer potential of CS-Ni/ZnO NCs was examined against AGS cells. The synthesized CS-Ni/ZnO NCs displayed a rod s...

A comprehensive health risk assessment associated with bioaccumulation of heavy metals and nutrients in selected macrophytes of Loktak Lake, Manipur, India
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29606-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Loktak Lake, a Ramsar site in Northeast India, is known for its rich biodiversity that includes a variety of macrophyte species, most of which have not been studied for their phytoremediation capacities and potential toxicity via consumption of the edible species. Therefore, a comprehensive assessment was conducted to evaluate the accumulation of selected heavy metals and nutrients in 10 dominant macrophyte species growing in Loktak Lake and to assess the potential health risks associated with consumption of the edib...

Transposable elements drive the evolution of metazoan zinc finger genes
Genome Res. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.1101/gr.277966.123. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCys2-His2 zinc finger genes (ZNFs) form the largest family of transcription factors in metazoans. ZNF evolution is highly dynamic and characterized by the rapid expansion and contraction of numerous subfamilies across the animal phylogeny. The forces and mechanisms underlying rapid ZNF evolution remain poorly understood, but there is growing evidence that, in tetrapods, the targeting and repression of lineage-specific transposable elements (TEs) plays a critical role in the evolution of the Krüppel-associated box ZNF (KZNF) subfamily. Curre...

BACH1 loss exerts antitumor effects on mantle cell lymphoma cells via inducing a tumor-intrinsic innate immune response and cell cycle arrest
Mol Cancer Res. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.1158/1541-7786.MCR-23-0424. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBTB and CNC homology 1 (BACH1) is a transcription repressor that regulates multiple physiological processes including intracellular heme homeostasis and immune responses. Increasing lines of evidence indicate that BACH1 reshapes metastasis and metabolism of human solid tumors. However, its potential roles in mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) remain largely unknown. Here we found that silencing BACH1 in MCL cells induced markedly cell-cycle arrest and cell apoptosis, whereas overexpression of BACH1 exhibited the opposite patterns. Increa...
