Enhancing Gastrointestinal Function Recovery in Post-Intestinal Surgery Patients Through Rapid Rehabilitation Nursing Therapy
CONCLUSIONS: Rapid rehabilitation nursing therapy in patients undergoing intestinal surgery substantially enhances digestive tract function and overall patient well-being. It effectively reduces the incidence of postoperative complications, accelerates the patient's recovery process, and improves their quality of life. Patient satisfaction with postoperative fast recovery care was notably high. This rehabilitation approach holds significant promise for patients undergoing intestinal surgery and merits wider adoption.PMID:37708562

Total Energy Expenditure and Nutritional Intake in Continuous Multiday Ultramarathon Events
Int J Sport Nutr Exerc Metab. 2023 Sep 14:1-7. doi: 10.1123/ijsnem.2023-0063. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTContinuous multiday ultramarathon competitions are increasingly popular and impose extreme energetic and nutritional demands on competitors. However, few data have been published on energy expenditure during these events. Here, we report doubly labeled water-derived measures of total energy expenditure (in kilocalories per day) and estimated physical activity level (PAL: total energy expenditure/basal metabolic rate) collected from five elite and subelite finishers (four males and one female, age 34.6 ± 4.9 years)-a...

Innovation in clinical nutrition: single dose in intermittent enteral tube feeding
Nutr Hosp. 2023 Aug 30. doi: 10.20960/nh.04753. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe home enteral nutrition practical guidelines of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) published in 2020 includes 61 recommendations. A significant number of them are related to safety parameters, prevention of complications, control strategies and quality of life of patients and family members. These are the same reasons why single-dose units are usually used on all medicines. Enteral feeding is one of the few treatments that has not yet reached the single dose and most patients with intermittent enteral nutrition ...

Dietary intake in individuals with phenylketonuria: an integrative review
CONCLUSION: most individuals with PKU have low energy, protein and fiber intake, adequate lipid intake, and high carbohydrate intake. Metabolic control of the disease is still a challenge in all countries. Genetic variants in CD36: emerging role in oral fat perception and food preferences
Nutr Hosp. 2023 Sep 1. doi: 10.20960/nh.04711. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCD36 is a receptor involved in physiologic, metabolic and pathologic processes. Due to its affinity for long-chain fatty acids, it has been postulated as a taste receptor of fatty taste. In this review, the emerging genetic evidence linking CD36 to oral fat perception is analyzed. A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, published articles from 2000 to 2022 were considered. Multiple studies have shown an association of some genetic variants in CD36 with fat foods preferences and it has been suggested that these variants can modify o...

Pharmacists' knowledge of drug food administration and their appropriate patient counseling a cross-sectional study from Palestine
J Health Popul Nutr. 2023 Sep 14;42(1):99. doi: 10.1186/s41043-023-00444-9.ABSTRACTPharmacists have a responsibility in the treatment of patients. Interactions between food and drugs may lead to a loss of therapeutic effectiveness or drug toxicity. Our study's objectives were to assess pharmacists' knowledge of patient counseling with regard to informing the patient about taking the drug in relation to food, as well as community pharmacists' knowledge of any pharmaceutical instructions that must be given to patients when delivering the drug. The pharmacists were assessed using an interview questionnaire. The results showed...
