Don't miss the chance to reap the fruits of recent advances in behavioral genetics
Behav Brain Sci. 2023 Sep 11;46:e208. doi: 10.1017/S0140525X22002497.ABSTRACTIn her target article, Burt revives a by now ancient debate on nature and nurture, and the ways to measure, disentangle, and ultimately trust one or the other of these forces. Unfortunately, she largely dismisses recent advances in behavior genetics and its huge potential in contributing to a better prediction and understanding of complex traits in social sciences.PMID:37694995 | DOI:10.1017/S0140525X22002497

Dietary habits among snus users: a population-based cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: We observed that snus users had an unhealthier diet than never tobacco users. Future studies on the association between snus use and health outcomes should, therefore, consider diet as a potential confounder.PMID:37691745 | PMC:PMC10492228 | DOI:10.29219/fnr.v67.9537

Chromatographic and biological screening of chosen species of Schisandraceae family: Schisandra chinensis, S. rubriflora, S. sphenanthera, S. henryi and Kadsura japonica
Chem Biodivers. 2023 Sep 11:e202300741. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202300741. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHPLC and TLC profiling was carried out for leaf and fruit extracts of five Schisandraceae species: Schisandra chinensis, S. rubriflora, S. spehenanthera, S. henryi and Kadsura japonica. HPLC measurements confirmed presence of lignans and phenolic compounds in fruits and leaves of all tested species. The most abundant in lignans was S. chinensis fruit extract in which 15 compounds were detected (e.g.: schisandrol A, schisanhenol, γ-schisandrin, gomisin N). The effect-directed detection i.e. TLC-direct bioautography against Ba...

The efficacy of digital media tools to promote a healthy diet in children: A systematic review of intervention studies
CONCLUSIONS: Digital media tools can be used to effectively implement health promotion interventions to improve knowledge and adherence to healthy diets in school-aged children. Further studies are needed to assess the long-term effectiveness of these interventions.PMID:37695189 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS3.14293

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles from discarded shells of velvet tamarind (Dialium cochinchinense) and their antimicrobial synergistic potentials and biofilm inhibition properties
In this study, discarded shell of velvet tamarind fruit is explored as a potent reducing agent for biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles (VeV-AgNPs). Silver nanoparticles were formed in minutes under sunlight exposure, which was considerably fast compared to under ambient conditions. The optical, structural and morphological studies revealed that the nanoparticle colloidal solution consisted of particles with quasi-spherical and rodlike morphologies. To investigate antimicrobial properties, eight microorganisms were exposed to the VeV-AgNPs. The results indicated that VeV-AgNPs had enhanced antimicrobial activity, wit...
