Long-Term Retention in an Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic With Buprenorphine.
CONCLUSION: During the study period, 52.7% and 35.5% of BHC patients treated with buprenorphine were retained for 1 and 2 years, respectively, comparable to the studies performed within primary care. Providing buprenorphine treatment within mental health clinics may serve patients who are already engaged with mental health providers but are reluctant to start new treatment within another treatment setting. SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: Identifying common predictors of retention can help determine which patients require additional substance use treatment support. (Am J Addict 2019:1-8). Spontaneous reductions in smoking during double-blind buprenorphine detoxification.
CONCLUSIONS: These data provide additional evidence that opioids influence smoking and extend prior findings to include primary PO abusers, rigorous double-blind opioid dosing conditions and urinary cotinine. These results also suggest that, while likely insufficient for complete cessation, patients who successfully taper from opioids may also experience concurrent reductions in smoking and thus may be ideal candidates for smoking cessation services. Progress in agonist therapy for substance use disorders: Lessons learned from methadone and buprenorphine.
Abstract Substance use disorders (SUD) are serious public health problems worldwide. Although significant progress has been made in understanding the neurobiology of drug reward and the transition to addiction, effective pharmacotherapies for SUD remain limited and a majority of drug users relapse even after a period of treatment. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved several medications for opioid, nicotine, and alcohol use disorders, whereas none are approved for the treatment of cocaine or other psychostimulant use disorders. The medications approved by the FDA for the treatment of S...

Prevalence of Cannabis Use and Cannabis Route of Administration among Massachusetts Adults in Buprenorphine Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder
CONCLUSIONS: Prevalence of past 30-day cannabis use among individuals receiving buprenorphine MOUD in Massachusetts in 2020 was nearly double the prevalence of cannabis use in Massachusetts' adult general population in 2019 (21%). Our data are consistent with state and national data showing smoking as the most common cROA.PMID:35410577 | DOI:10.1080/10826084.2022.2063899

Use of Smoking Cessation Methods Among Patients Receiving Office-based Buprenorphine Maintenance Treatment
Conclusions: Patients receiving BMT have a high prevalence of cigarette smoking, though most have tried to quit, and have prior experience with pharmacotherapy for smoking cessation. Efforts to optimize smoking-cessation treatments among BMT patients are needed.

Influence of legislations and news on Indian internet search query patterns of e-cigarettes
Conclusions: These findings suggest that search for information on ENDS is increasing and that these tobacco control policies and news items, targeting tobacco usage reduction, have only a short-term effect on the rate of searching for information on ENDS.

Why do adult dogs (Canis familiaris) commit the A-not-B search error?
It has been recently reported that adult domestic dogs, like human infants, tend to commit perseverative search errors; that is, they select the previously rewarded empty location in Piagetian A-not-B search task because of the experimenter’s ostensive communicative cues. There is, however, an ongoing debate over whether these findings reveal that dogs can use the human ostensive referential communication as a source of information or the phenomenon can be accounted for by “more simple” explanations like insufficient attention and learning based on local enhancement. In 2 experiments the authors systematically manipu...

Identifying e-cigarette vape stores: description of an online search methodology
Conclusions Using the online search methodology we identified more ENDS vape stores than were on the state tobacco licensure list. This approach may be a promising strategy to identify and track the growth of ENDS vape stores over time, especially in states without a systematic licensing requirement for such stores.
