Investigating the relationship between physical activity and self-reported outcomes in adults with rotator cuff related shoulder pain
CONCLUSION: A significant relationship between pain or self-reported outcomes and physical activity was not identified. Those who self-reported regularly exercising their injured shoulder had higher exercise self-efficacy than those who did not. These findings have clinical implications, suggesting that strategies to boost exercise self-efficacy may be important for older adults with rotator cuff related shoulder pain.PMID:37642369 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2023.2250438

Reliability and variability of physiotherapists scoring freezing of gait through video analysis
CONCLUSION: Physiotherapists demonstrated sufficient reliability, but variability was large enough to cause changes in severity classifications on existing rating scales. Percentage of time spent with freezing was the least reliable marker, supporting the use of freezing frequency or total duration instead.PMID:37639503 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2023.2252059

Belief, hope and help from others: a qualitative study on what facilitates physical activity in people with depression
CONCLUSION: The results indicate that knowledge and personal experience of how physical activity affects well-being, and an environment including social support, increase the possibilities for people with depression to initiate and maintain physical activity. To promote physical activity, it is important to be receptive to the person's experiences, desires, and needs and to involve them in the planning and adjustment of physical activity. Follow-up appointments, a stepwise approach, and encouragement are important to increase motivation.PMID:37639339 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2023.2251051

A single group trial (before - after) on impact of physiotherapeutic intervention package on relief from low back pain of pregnant women
J Family Med Prim Care. 2023 Jun;12(6):1078-1082. doi: 10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1566_22. Epub 2023 Jun 30.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: More than half of the women have low back pain (LBP) at some point during pregnancy; the intensity of back pain increases as the pregnancy progresses. Such changes increase their risk for musculoskeletal disorders and fall injuries.AIM AND OBJECTIVE: Our study's objective was to estimate the prevalence of LBP in antenatal and postnatal cases of pregnancy in PGIMER, Chandigarh and to ascertain impact of a training intervention on incidence and severity of LBP in the study subjects.METHODOLOGY: A single ...

The prevalence and clinical course of shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (SIRVA) after COVID-19 vaccines in Dutch hospital workers
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of SIRVA is estimated at 3% in the adult working population. Signs and symptoms of SIRVA are variable in severity, localization and timing. Soft-tissue abnormalities is the most common clinical sign. This study contributes to clinician's knowledge on SIRVA, aiding in early recognition and treatment, which are imperative for prevention of persistent and severe shoulder pathology.PMID:37635003 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.08.043

Exploring exercise, physical wellbeing and the role of physiotherapy: perspectives from people with narcolepsy
J Sleep Res. 2023 Aug 24:e14007. doi: 10.1111/jsr.14007. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNarcolepsy is associated with reduced quality of life and physical performance. The study aimed to explore the attitudes of people with Type 1 narcolepsy towards exercise and physical activity, their physical wellbeing, and the potential role of physiotherapy. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 22 people with narcolepsy attending a dedicated outpatient narcolepsy clinic located in Dublin, Ireland. Transcripts were iteratively coded; a thematic analysis was undertaken, and key themes were identified. Four themes were identifie...

Physical Therapy Combined with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy: Treatment Practice Considering the Effect of Reducing Upper Limb Spasticity on Gait
Phys Ther Res. 2023;26(2):44-49. doi: 10.1298/ptr.R0025. Epub 2023 May 30.ABSTRACTWe perform physical therapy combined with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in stroke patients with hemiplegia in the maintenance phase with the intent of improving the support of paralyzed leg. In gait evaluation in patients with hemiplegia, it is important to assess elements related to coordination carefully. rTMS therapy is effective in alleviating the tension of upper limbs. As rTMS helps upper-limb swing to become evident during gait, it makes trunk rotation necessary for left-right coordination appear more easily. As a...
