Reliability of inter-recti distance measurement on ultrasound images captured by novice examiners
CONCLUSION: Novice examiners were able to capture good-quality ultrasound images of the linea alba that allowed for good to excellent intra- and inter-examiner reliability.PMID:37695024 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2023.2255897

Critical physiotherapy: a ten-year retrospective
Physiother Theory Pract. 2023 Sep 9:1-13. doi: 10.1080/09593985.2023.2252524. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCritical physiotherapy has been a rapidly expanding field over the last decade and could now justifiably be called a professional sub-discipline. In this paper we define three different but somewhat interconnected critical positions that have emerged over the last decade that share a critique of physiotherapy's historical approach to health and illness, while also diverging in the possibilities for new forms of practice and thinking. These three positions broadly align with three distinctive philosophies: approaches ...

Zwitterionic "Solutions" for Reversible CO2 Capture
ChemSusChem. 2023 Sep 8:e202300971. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202300971. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe zwitterions resulting from the covalent attachment of 3- or 4-hydroxy benzene to the 1,3-dimethylimidazolium cation represent basic compounds (pKa of 8.68 and 8.99 in aqueous solutions, respectively) that chemisorb in aqueous solutions 0.58 mol/mol of carbon dioxide at 1.3 bar (absolute) and 40 °C. Equimolar amounts of chemisorbed CO2 in these solutions are obtained at 10 bar and 40 °C. Chemisorption takes place through the formation of bicarbonate in the aqueous solution using imidazolium-containing phenolate. CO2 is liber...

Does feeling pain help prepare future clinicians to treat pain? A qualitative exploration of a novel experiential approach to teaching health professional students about pain
CONCLUSION: Integrating first-hand pain experiences within entry-level physiotherapy training appears to have novel value in helping students understand pain subjectivity. Future research should use robust and controlled designs to explore how this novel approach can be used to facilitate further understanding and empathy within clinical interactions with people living with pain.PMID:37682624 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2023.2254367

The effect of high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on motor recovery and gait parameters in chronic incomplete spinal cord injury: A randomized-controlled study
CONCLUSION: Our study findings support the therapeutic effectiveness of rTMS on motor recovery in chronic iSCI. The rTMS can be used as an adjuvant therapy to conventional physiotherapy in the rehabilitation of patients with iSCI.PMID:37674795 | PMC:PMC10478546 | DOI:10.5606/tftrd.2023.11585

Physiotherapy as part of collaborative and person-centered rehabilitation services: the social systems constraining an innovative practice
CONCLUSION: An innovative practice was constrained by multilevel social systems: the professional logic shaping the perceived professional scope, the organizational logic shaping the understanding of what was expected in the organizational context, and a system logic within a biomedical paradigm. Transforming and transcending these social systems is needed to realize collaborative and person-centered practice.PMID:37676077 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2023.2255893
