Lipopolysaccharide stimulates macrophages to secrete exosomes containing miR-155-5p to promote activation and migration of hepatic stellate cells
CONCLUSION: LPS stimulation of the macrophages increases miR-155-5p expression in the exosomes to promote activation and migration and increase oxidative stress and collagen production in hepatic stellate cells.PMID:37439172 | PMC:PMC10339300 | DOI:10.12122/j.issn.1673-4254.2023.06.15

Unripe fruits of Litchi chinensis (Gaertn.) Sonn: An overview of its toxicity
Ann Pharm Fr. 2023 Jul 11:S0003-4509(23)00073-1. doi: 10.1016/j.pharma.2023.07.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLitchi (Litchi chinensis) is a widely consumed fruit that has been used in many food and health-promoting products worldwide. Litchi is a good source of nutrients including vitamin and minerals, dietary fibers, proteins, and carbohydrates. Of note, several studies have reported that the constituents of litchi fruits elicit antioxidant properties and help to maintain blood pressure, and reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack. An unclearly explained outbreak occurred in June 2019 in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), India...

Brytella acorum gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel acetic acid bacterium from sour beverages
Syst Appl Microbiol. 2023 Jul 4;46(5):126440. doi: 10.1016/j.syapm.2023.126440. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPolyphasic taxonomic and comparative genomic analyses revealed that a series of lambic beer isolates including strain LMG 32668T and the kombucha isolate LMG 32879 represent a novel species among the acetic acid bacteria, with Acidomonas methanolica as the nearest phylogenomic neighbor with a valid name. Overall genomic relatedness indices and phylogenomic and physiological analyses revealed that this novel species was best classified in a novel genus for which we propose the name Brytella acorum gen. nov., sp. nov...

Exploring the ameliorative potential of < em > Bacopa monnieri < /em > in acetic acid induced ulcerative colitis in mice
Nat Prod Res. 2023 Jul 10:1-6. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2023.2233047. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of the present study was to evaluate the role of Bacopa monnieri in acetic-acid-induced ulcerative colitis in mice. Acetic acid (3%v/v, in 0.9% saline) was infused intrarectally to induce ulceration in mice. Administration of acetic acid resulted in severe inflammation of the colon along with an increase in the myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity assessed on 7th day. Treatment with Bacopa monnieri extract (20 mg/kg and 40 mg/kg, p.o) and saponin-rich fraction (5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg; p.o) for 7 days i.e. 2 days before and 5 da...

New insight into thermal hydrolysis of sewage sludge from solubilisation analysis
This study evaluated the influence of flashing, reaction time, and temperature to understand the mechanism. It was found that while hydrolysis is the primary process (responsible for approximately 76-87% of sludge solubilisation), the sudden decompression via flashing at the end of the process, creating shear force to break the cell membrane, contributes a considerable percentage (approximately 24-13% depended on the treatment conditions) to the solubilisation of treated sludge. More importantly, the decompression helps significantly shorten the reaction time from 30 min to 10 min, which in turn reduces the sludge's colour...

ACME Dissociation-Fixation, Flow Cytometry, and Cell Sorting of Freshwater Planarian Cells
Methods Mol Biol. 2023;2680:169-177. doi: 10.1007/978-1-0716-3275-8_10.ABSTRACTPlanarian cell dissociation methods using enzymatic approaches are well established and have been widely used in the field. However, their use in transcriptomics and especially single-cell transcriptomics raises concerns as cells are dissociated alive, and this induces cellular stress responses. Here we describe a protocol for planarian cell dissociation using ACME, a dissociation-fixation approach based on acetic acid and methanol. ACME-dissociated cells are fixed, can be cryopreserved, and are amenable to modern methods of single-cell transcri...
