The effect of exercise on vascular health in chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1152/ajprenal.00152.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPatients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease. This increased risk cannot be fully explained by traditional risk factors such as hypertension. Endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness have been suggested as factors which explain some of the increased risk, and are independently associated with important cardiovascular outcomes in CKD patients. Studies in other disease populations have shown positive effects of exercise on vascular dysfunction. The aim of this review was...

Comparison of young and old patients on peritoneal dialysis: A retrospective observational study
CONCLUSION: Peritonitis and technical survival evaluations of elderly PD patients, other than mortality, were lower than younger PD patients. However, the need for help is one of the biggest obstacles to this method for the elderly. We believe that incentives in this regard will increase the number of elderly PD patients.PMID:37734902 | DOI:10.1111/sdi.13180

Health inequities in dialysis care: A scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Our scoping review examined current literature on health inequities pertaining to dialysis and found gaps concerning LGBTQ+ and patients with lower levels of education. To help fill these gaps, and possibly alleviate additional burden to these patients, we recommend cultural competency training for providers and dialysis center staff as well as community-based educational programs to improve dialysis patients' health literacy.PMID:37734842 | DOI:10.1111/sdi.13176

Physician Preferences when Selecting Candidates for Lower-Quality Kidney Offers
CONCLUSIONS: Physicians appear to consider the recipient characteristics that inform expected post-transplant survival score when deciding whether to accept a marginal kidney for a given recipient.PMID:37729938 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000302

Racial Disparities in End-Stage Kidney Disease Outcomes Among Asians and Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders Across Geographic Residence
CONCLUSION: In the Mainland, Asians and NHOPIs had lower mortality vs. White patients, whereas in Hawaii/PIs this survival benefit was diminished in Asians and mitigated in NHOPIs. NHOPIs and Asians in Hawaii/PIs had less transplantation vs. those in the Mainland. Further research is needed to uncover factors contributing to differential ESKD outcomes among Asians and NHOPIs across geographic residence.PMID:37725913 | DOI:10.1159/000534052

Monitoring strategy of COVID-19 vaccination in dialysis patients based on a multiplex immunodot method: The CovidDial study
CONCLUSION: Three doses of mRNA-1273 vaccine induce a robust but time-limited immunologic response in dialysis patients. Lower anti-spike antibodies titers after initial vaccination are associated with a higher risk to subsequently contract SARS-CoV-2, even beyond 6 months.PMID:37718617 | DOI:10.1111/sdi.13175

Peritoneal Dialysis Patient Training Program to Enhance independence and Prevent Complications: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSION: There are a variety of strategies for dialysis training concerning duration, session length, patient-to-trainer ratio, timing, methods, location, compliance, and the need for retraining. More evidence is needed to assess the impact of PD patient training programs on self-care capabilities and peritonitis incidence. Future studies should investigate the effects of training programs on compliance, self-efficacy, and patient and nurse perspectives.PMID:37720493 | PMC:PMC10505035 | DOI:10.2147/IJNRD.S414447

Development and validation of AI-based triage support algorithms for prevention of intradialytic hypotension
CONCLUSIONS: Recurrent symptomatic intradialytic hypotension could be reliably and accurately predicted using routinely collected data during dialysis treatment and standard clinical care. Clinical application of these prediction models would allow for personalized risk-based interventions for preventing and managing intradialytic hypotension.PMID:37707692 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01741-6
