Continuous Tunneled Infraclavicular Nerve Catheter for Palliative Management of Critical Limb Ischemia: A Case Report
We describe the successful use of a continuous local anesthetic infusion via an infraclavicular nerve catheter to control severe refractory ischemic upper limb pain in a patient with metastatic lung cancer for whom surgical and pharmacological intervention was unsuccessful. As her opioid requirements increased due to worsening ischemic pain, she subsequently developed opioid toxicity, hence prompting the palliative use of a tunneled infraclavicular nerve catheter under ultrasound guidance to minimize opioid requirements. Her opioid requirements tailed down subsequently with the successful insertion of the infraclavicular n...

Acute angle-closure related with choroidal metastasis from lung adenocarcinoma: A case report and literature review
CONCLUSION: This case demonstrated that patient with secondary acute angle-closure attacks from large bullous choroidal detachment related to choroidal metastasis could only be successfully treated with radiotherapy as both medical and laser therapy might not be capable of breaking angle-closure attacks.PMID:37424265 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231187425

Challenges in managing upper gastrointestinal bleeding secondary to primary squamous cell carcinoma of the pancreas: a case report and literature review
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first reported Australian case of pancreatic SCC presenting with upper gastrointestinal bleeding and new-onset diabetes mellitus. Patients with unresectable disease require a multidisciplinary approach to manage complications and improve symptom control. However, there are no standard treatment guidelines and future research is needed in this regard.PMID:37171715 | DOI:10.1186/s40792-023-01663-2

Radiosensitisation by olaparib through focused ultrasound delivery in a diffuse midline glioma model
CONCLUSIONS: Olaparib effectively radiosensitises DMG cells in vitro and reduces primary tumour growth in vivo when combined with RT. Further studies are needed to investigate the therapeutic benefit of olaparib in suitable preclinical PDX models.PMID:37019285 | DOI:10.1016/j.jconrel.2023.03.058

Predictors of 3-month mortality with muscle ultrasound and palliative prognostic tools among patients admitted to palliative care units
CONCLUSIONS: Findings revealed that the combined use of the CSA of the RF, the PPI, and the PaP score are reliable predictors of mortality in patients admitted to the PCU.PMID:36997319 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2022.308

Metastatic breast cancer from a hepatocellular carcinoma: a case report
Korean J Clin Oncol. 2022 Dec;18(2):93-96. doi: 10.14216/kjco.22013. Epub 2022 Dec 30.ABSTRACTBreast metastases from extramammary malignancies are rare. Here, we report a case of breast metastasis from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after breast mass excision in a 63-year-old woman. A new breast nodule was noticed after transarterial chemoembolization, transarterial radioembolization, and stereotactic body radiation therapy for HCC. Breast ultrasound and core needle biopsy were performed to differentiate between the breast tumors. The biopsy result was invasive breast carcinoma, and wide excision of the breast was performe...

Ultrasound-guided day-case wide-bore percutaneous mucin aspiration in advanced pseudomyxoma peritonei
CONCLUSION: Percutaneous ultrasound-guided day-case aspiration of mucin for advanced and recurrent PMP using a wide-bore drain is a safe and effective procedure. It may be used in the palliative setting or as a bridge to surgery in the very symptomatic patient or if there is a reversible contraindication to surgery.PMID:36842914 | DOI:10.1016/j.crad.2023.01.016

Cancers, Vol. 14, Pages 6130: Needle-Tract Seeding of Pancreatic Cancer after EUS-FNA: A Systematic Review of Case Reports and Discussion of Management
Discussion of Management Cancers doi: 10.3390/cancers14246130 Authors: Archibugi Ponz de Leon Pisani Petrone Balzano Falconi Doglioni Capurso Arcidiacono Needle-tract seeding (NTS) has been sporadically reported as complication of Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)-guided aspiration (FNA) in pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, the evidence of its treatment and outcome is sparse. Adhering to PRISMA guidelines, we conducted a systematic review of EUS-FNA NTS cases of PDAC and analyzed their management and outcome. Up to September 2022, the search query retrieved forty-five cases plus an unpublis...

Neuroendocrine neoplasms of the small intestine and the appendix - update of the diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines (recommended by the Polish Network of Neuroendocrine Tumours) Nowotwory neuroendokrynne jelita cienkiego i wyrostka robaczkowego - uaktualnione zasady diagnostyki i leczenia (rekomendowane przez Polsk ą Sieć Guzów Neuroendokrynnych)
Endokrynol Pol. 2022;73(3):549-583. doi: 10.5603/EP.a2022.0052.ABSTRACTUpdated Polish recommendations for the management of patients with neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) of the small intestine (SINENs) and of the appendix (ANENs) are presented here. The small intestine, and especially the ileum, is one of the most common locations for these neoplasms. Most of them are well-differentiated and slow-growing tumours; uncommonly - neuroendocrine carcinomas. Their symptoms may be untypical and their diagnosis may be delayed or accidental. Najczęściej pierwszą manifestacją ANEN jest jego ostre zapalenie. Typical symptoms of c...
