Surgical strategies for the treatment of deformity-associated cervical spondylotic stretch myelopathy: a case series with technically nuanced illustrative operative videos
CONCLUSIONS: Deformity-associated cervical spondylotic stretch myelopathy often leads to devastating neurological decline and can significantly decrease quality of life. Carefully selected cases of circumferentially rigid cervical kyphosis can be successfully corrected with anterior-only osteotomies followed by posterior fixation while avoiding back-front-back operations.PMID:37657104 | DOI:10.3171/2023.6.FOCUS23279

A trial-based economic evaluation of the CaFaSpA referral strategy for axial spondyloarthritis
CONCLUSIONS: Digital referral did not decrease the overall healthcare status of patients after 1 year of follow-up and appears to be more cost-effective than UC. Therefore, CS can be used as an appropriate primary care referral model for CLBP patients at risk for axSpA. This will accelerate timely provision of care by the right caregiver.PMID:37650240 | DOI:10.1080/03009742.2023.2243081

Isolated quadrilateral plate fracture with central hip dislocation after epileptic seizure in a postpartum patient: A case report
Chin J Traumatol. 2023 Aug 25:S1008-1275(23)00088-3. doi: 10.1016/j.cjtee.2023.06.006. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIsolated quadrilateral plate fractures are extremely rare and their treatment is complex. The postpartum period and recent caesarean section additionally increase already significant risks of surgical treatment. Modified Stoppa approach and the use of infrapectineal plate represent the optimal surgical treatment method. One case of central hip dislocation and isolated quadrilateral plate fracture was reported during an epileptic seizure 1 day postpartum, which was treated with open reduction and internal fix...

Abdominal Imaging Findings in Laboratory-Confirmed COVID-19 Patients: A Retrospective Observational Study
CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, the research conducted on the abdominal manifestations of COVID-19 is still limited, especially in our region. Our study showed that there are variable presentations of abdominal organ involvement in COVID-19 cases, and as such more data is required to direct choice of imaging study, protocol, and interpretation of findings to better guide patient management.PMID:37649952 | PMC:PMC10463944 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.42677

Instrumented Posterior Arthrodesis of the Lumbar Spine: Prospective Study Evaluating Fusion Outcomes in Patients Receiving an Interspinous Fixation Device for the Treatment of Degenerative Spine Diseases
CONCLUSION: Instrumented posterior arthrodesis of the lumbar spine using a minimally invasive interspinous fixation device provides clinically meaningful fusion rates with no reoperations and a low risk of spinous process fracture or other device-related complications.PMID:37649625 | PMC:PMC10463371 | DOI:10.2147/JPR.S417319

Interventions for the treatment of oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers: surgical treatment
CONCLUSIONS: We found moderate-certainty evidence based on five trials that elective neck dissection of clinically negative neck nodes at the time of removal of the primary oral cavity tumour is superior to therapeutic neck dissection, with increased survival and disease-free survival, and reduced locoregional recurrence. There was moderate-certainty evidence from one trial of no difference between positron emission tomography (PET-CT) following chemoradiotherapy versus planned neck dissection in terms of overall survival or locoregional recurrence. The evidence for each of the other seven comparisons came from only one or...
