The Release of Nitric Oxide Is Involved in the β-Arrestin1-Induced Antihypertensive Effect in the Rostral Ventrolateral Medulla
β-Arrestin1 is a multifunctional scaffold protein with the ability to interact with diverse signaling molecules independent of G protein-coupled receptors. We previously reported that overexpression of β-arrestin1 in the rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) decreased blood pressure (BP) and renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Nitric oxide (NO) is widely reported to be involved in central cardiovascular regulation. The goal of this study was to investigate whether NO signaling contributes to the β-arrestin1-mediated antihypertensive effect in the RVLM. It was found that bila...

A simulated avalanche search and rescue mission induces temporary physiological and behavioural changes in military dogs
In conclusion, despite extreme environmental and training conditions only temporary physiological and behavioural changes were recorded in the avalanche dogs. Their excellent performance in successful simulated SASR may be attributable to extensive training and good dog-handler relationships. Simulated SASR did not seem to impair SAGF dogs' performance or welfare.

Modeling search movements of an insect's front leg
Abstract Beside locomotion, search movements are another important type of motor activity of insects. They are very often performed by the front legs of the animals. They consist of cyclic stereotypical leg movements that can be modified by sensory signals. The details of the local organization of these movements have however not yet been studied. In this paper, we, using an appropriate variant of our existing one‐leg model, present a scheme of how these searching movements might be organized and performed on the level of local neuromuscular control networks. In the simulations with the model, we attempted to mimic the e...

Temporal effects of sugar intake on fly local search and honey bee dance behaviour
This study aimed to investigate the temporal dynamics of the initiation of sugar-elicited search and dance behaviour, using a comparative approach. Passive displacement experiments showed that feeding and the initiation of search could be spatially and temporally dissociated. Sugar intake increased the probability of initiating a search but the actual onset of walking triggers the path integration system to guide the search. When prevented from walking after feeding, flies and bees maintained their motivation for a path integration-based search for a duration of 3  min. In flies, turning and associated characters were sig...

AutoQuery: automatic construction of dependency queries for code search
Abstract Many code search techniques have been proposed to return relevant code for a user query expressed as textual descriptions. However, source code is not mere text. It contains dependency relations among various program elements. To leverage these dependencies for more accurate code search results, techniques have been proposed to allow user queries to be expressed as control and data dependency relationships among program elements. Although such techniques have been shown to be effective for finding relevant code, it remains a question whether appropriate queries can be generated by average users. In this ...

AR assistance for efficient dynamic target search
AbstractWhen searching for a dynamic target in an unknown real world scene, search efficiency is greatly reduced if users lack information about the spatial structure of the scene. Most target search studies, especially in robotics, focus on determining either the shortest path when the target ’s position is known, or a strategy to find the target as quickly as possible when the target’s position is unknown. However, the target’s position is often known intermittently in the real world, e.g., in the case of using surveillance cameras. Our goal is to help user find a dynamic target e fficiently in the real world when ...
